New chicks are so much fun, we let them play in our front yard

Brown chicks are sex links. Sex-links are cross-bred so that their color at hatching is differentiated by sex. This is important for us as we are not allowed to have a rooster. As you already know "modern" and "advanced" humans regulate this by zoning bylaws.

The white sussex chicks are unsexed which means that we will have to wait till they are about 4 month old to determine if they are hens or roosters.

We drove to the farm on a nice and sunny Easter Monday morning. Kids were so content.

She was not feeling well for about a week. I helped her as much as I could (giving her raw garlic, turmeric, ginger, warm baths, olive oil, fermented cod liver oil, dandelion juice...), even took her to the very good vet, but she passed away from the complications of internal laying /egg yolk peritonitis (egg that got stuck inside her abdomen). She was about 3 years old and she gave us many beautiful eggs and lots of love. From all our 7 hens Rosi was the most special, so tame and almost able to talk to us. She was very healthy and vibrant.

It comforts me that she had a great life here, she was pampered, fed only best organic food and had lots of space to roam around.
