&lt;p&gt;When new the 50 Class 50s were allocated to the London Midland Region ,working mainly Anglo Scottish expresses,usually in pairs.By 1973,when this photo of 50017 was taken at Preston,electric working had reached Preston,where the 50s replaced an electric loco for the journey northwards.When electric trains took over,the 50s were transferred to the Western Region.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

&lt;p&gt;Another favourite was the Manchester-Sheffield 1500V DC Electrified line.Here one of the EMUs M59402M  leaves Guide Bridge for Hadfield in 1976.In those days Guide Bridge was a hive of activity,and there were no jobsworths to stop you taking photos or even wandering round the stabling point!&lt;/p&gt;</description>
