Hi guys, it's been a crazy and hectic couple of weeks, but I've made it to WDW :-) Sorry I haven't had the time to go onto Flickr, but I'm really excited about taking shots here, thanks to all the positive inspiration and feedback from everyone :-)

This shot is the product of boredom. Rather than be in the room for the afternoon, I decided to capture the Wilderness waterfall with my ND filter. The only problem was that I chose the dumbest time of day to do so! As you can see, the sky is totally blownout. I'd love to try this early in the morning some time.

Okay, this can't hold a candle to those super cool night shots of this. But I could only make it during the day so I hope it still has some sort of impact. I must admit, this is what I like about Disney, they put so much effort into everything. I mean, this is a terrific archway!

This picture is special to me because it is probably the only shot that I've done where I was very pleased with it from the begining and quite proud of to a point. I'm guilty of being self critical at times but for once I found a picture that I was happy with :-)

I think I will always remember taking this shot. It was part of the second set of Illuminations shots that I had taken and I was trying to make a reasonable attempt to get at least one shot from there. What I remember most was the anticipation (which I get with most long exposures), and then seeing it on the small screen. I liked what I saw, but I've had shots like that before, where they look good until you put them on the computer. And I just hoped that it had worked out as well as it seemed. I was very happy when I saw it on the big screen, and furthermore, I've done next to nothing with it, other than a slight crop and a slight colour enhancement. I'm a bit bemused by that.

The only question I have is the old PoV on the lagoon debate. We are always on the bridge at International Gateway, which means including the island/trees. If I was dead centre I would have avoided that, but on the other hand, it's another aspect of the shot. Another one for the jury, lol.

Partners - upclose and personal

This composition was deliberately done but it wasn't the intention if you can follow me. I've been chasing my 'Partners' shot for a couple of trips now and I still haven't really got it. I like some elements of this, but I once read some advice from Susan (Kiki FL) that you should get the whole subject in and not crop their legs off. I think this is sound advice and thats what I wanted to do. But I suppose when you try to shoot this in the afternoon during Christmas season, you're always going to get people in it. I got one that was close with the exception of a womans head, so in the end, I'm posting this one.

What I do like is the DoF and the sunlight on Walt and Mickey. The close composition gives it a more personal feel too. But I promise you - I'm still after this shot and don't even mention the night version, lol.

In advance of Monorail Monday :-)

I just think monorails are a wonderful representation of a Utopian world. I suppose that's what Walt himself invisioned. Even by just looking at this shot, I can clearly hear that gentle 'choooom' noise that they make as they go by.

I may have mentioned before that I'm lacking in quality monorail shots. And strangely, the focus seems quite bad here in some parts. But I hope I've made up for that with composition. This is very similar to a shot I posted a few weeks ago (same monorail black too!), but I actually took the shots 3 hours apart, lol.

This was taken on one of my last nights and I was running around like a headless hen trying to snap what I could. So in that respect, this was done quickly. I had to crop it quite a bit (top & bottom) as there was just too much black. Also, I'm not entirely happy with the colours but I'm a bit limited as to what I can do about them. Although, I do like the colours on SSE, it really brings out the shape.

These little statues make for great use of the 50mm. I think I took pictures of them all, but the others had poinsettas in the background which I felt to be too seasonal. This shot really brought out the DoF in my opinion, so it got preferance today.

I've been trying to get round to Flickr since Saturday! Sorry if I've missed commenting on some shots. I'm just strapped for time at the moment and I hate uploading if I can't comment too (I believe Flickr is very much a two way traffic thing). Anyway, the reason I'm a bit pressed is because it is rumoured in my household that we might be going to WDW soon!! So I've got a lot of comittments to complete before I can commit to a vacation, but on the plus side everyones shots are exciting and inspiring me very easily :-)

Whilst rushing for our reservation, I just had to do a quick snap of the sun kissing the Contemporary. It just sets the mood for a good meal :-)

I have to mention here how much I love the geometry of this building.

I love Dole Whip! I was disapointed a few years ago when they changed the consistancy of the ice cream, but I was pleasantly surprised last trip to see that they had restored it to the old way. I was so pleased I took a picture of it, to commemorate that fine last afternoon at WDW.

I processed it to give it a bit of enrichment. I normally wouldn't post something like this, but I know how popular (ledgendry!) the Dole Whip is with my fellow Disney geeks :-)

This is another shot from the fountain outside Muppet Vision. I had previously posted a close up as it got preference. As mentioned in that post, the sky made a poor backdrop that day. But regardless, I do like this shot because of the detailed waterdrops and Fuzzy's camera also being included in the composition. Maybe the angle is a bit heavy handed though (hence the title). This is a fun area of the park that I really like.

I just want to thank everyone for their comments and favourites. I was working on Aperture tonight and when I went onto Flickr, I saw that all my posts after 17th Feb had been wiped :-(( I'm gutted to be quite honest and I have no idea how it happened.

I'm not going to repost them for now and obviously it would be impossible to replace all the comments! So, if I missed any, thanks anyway. I'm not a happy squirrel!

The Golden Era

What I like most about Hollywood Studios (or MGM as I still sometimes refer to it), is that it still embraces everything about that golden era. I think Michael Eisner summed the park up best when he said that it was "the Hollywood that never was and always will be". I particularly think that this area of the park and especially this Caddy sum that saying up best.

I desperately wanted to get something in this area but I was frustrated by lack of originality. I think this scene looks best at night and this car has been done a million times before. But in the end, with my sister hurrying me, this was the best I could come up with. I think going wide has helped though.

I'm probably going to be a bit contoversial by saying that Illuminations is the best firewoks display in the world and I would easily choose it over anything at the MK. I must have went to it 6 times last trip although I only photographed it twice. I will save my photography woes for another post of this show some time in the future. In the meantime, I thought I'd post this because I kind of like the blueness which allowed a bit of wordplay in the title :-)

I only came away with a few shots that I felt was acceptable for me at my level, which I could either be pleased with or learn from. This one isn't the best one IMO, but it's not the worst either. I actually had a lot of fun shooting the fireworks because I didn't set my expectations very high (for once!). I was really relaxed about it!

This is another one of those shots that I wish I had spared another 2 seconds with to do it properly. I've seen these tikis done good and I wanted to do my version. But when I got home and saw it I was kind of kicking myself as I feel it could have been composed a bit better.

This was taken in Adventureland. I sometimes feel this area is a little too congested at times.

We were lucky enough to have this cabin of the monorail to ourselves for the short trip from the Contemporary to the TTC. I wasn't sure how this shot should be taken. But I decided that a heafty tilt would be different at least. I was glad I captured monorail yellow in the shot too!

This was a memorable night enroute to Epcot. We were starving and decided to catch a pizza on the way. Whilst my parents ordered it I decided to pull out the tripod for this shot. I almost didn't because we were in a hurry and it was about to rain. I went ahead anyway and I only had enough time for two shots before the heavens literally opened. Luckily my bag etc was waterproof, unluckily I wasn't as I'd left my coat in the room. I was what the Scottish call 'drooket', soaked, lol. My opinion is that this could obviously be improved here and there (certainly with adequet processing), but overall I'm still pleased because it was a fairly quick shot.

This was one of those 'walk-by' shots. I wish I had taken more time to compose this better as the little subject and colours came out better than I thought.

I like Splash Mountain, but I always want to go for a shower when I come off it, lol.

Whilst I wanted this landscape shot to be part of the album as a sort of reference, I wanted it to look a bit more interesting. I processed the colours a little to try and give it a flashback quality because sometimes it feels like I had a dream I was there. I hope it doesnt look too harsh, I'm still a complete amature at the processing so far. I also chose to compose this with the bush at the side, which I'm still not sure about. It would be interesting to know if this kind of composition is okay for a landscape shot.

Ideally, I wanted to get this shot from the other side but the light was rubbish from there. In fact, it was quite overcast and I wasn't sure how this would work out. I took several shots from various positions and overall I liked this one best. I've got to admit I love using a prime lense. It's very restrictive with regards to zooming but I'm convinced they take a better picture.

I can't believe that I have gone from having nothing in Explore to having two pictures within a couple of days explored. Thank you to everyone for their kind support!!
