When you look through my photo stream, you will find many more shots of the Evenburg. It's only a 5 minute walk from my house and nice in every season. I like it most in May, when everything becomes green again. There is also a pleasant little river nearby for longer walks.

Little Honeymoon Island is part of the Aitutaki lagoon. Here the water is so clear, that you can see the bottom in up to 50m of depth outside the lagoon. Inside the lagoon the water is only a few metres deep and from all diffrent shades of blue and green you can imagine. Together with Bora Bora this is the most beautiful island in the South Pacific.
The dark spots are corals full of colorful fish, ideal for snorkeling.

The Solomon Islands is a small island nation to the north east of Australia. It's only a two hours flight from Brisbane, but because of the bad reputation there are hardly any tourists. When we went to the tourist office in Honiara we were told we were the first Germans to visit that year - and it was August already! We loved it and found it very peaceful. All the experts told us the same. From Honiara we visited the small town of Gizo in the north of the country. There are plenty of beautiful islands with coral reefs, WWII wrecks and lovely people. This is the view of Gizo harbour from near the Gizo Hotel. The little boats run like buses to the outlying islands. The country is a perfect place for divers and fishermen.

The moai quarry on Ester Island is the most photographed place on the island. Here you can find most of the moai on the island, some unfinished still in the rock.
There are more moai pictures in my South Pacific album.

Evenburg

The Evenburg is an old castle just around the corner from my home. It's one of three former castles in my hometown Leer in the north-west corner of Germany. Today it houses a teachers collage and can be booked for weddings.

Waya Island is one of the Yasawa Islands in the north west of the main island of Fiji, Viti Levu. There are only a few resorts on the island, which are pretty low key. To get around you have to take a boat or walk on the treks from one village to the next.
This shot was taken on a rainy day from Kuata, a small island to the south.

New Zealand's South Island is a lot more remote than the busy North Island. This is the wildest region, the west coast of the South Island. It's a wonderland of rainforests, moores, beaches, glaciers and mountains. It rains on about 300 days every year!

Milford Sound is the most famous fjord in New Zealand. Usually it rains here for about 300 days every year! That adds up to about 8 metres of rain!!! We had to wait for one week in the next town to see it like this.
The mountain to the left rises just over a mile (1692 metres) above sea level. It's called Mitre Peak.
The two mountains on the right are the Elephant and the Lion, because of their shape. There is a huge waterfall coming out of the Elephant's trunk!
