Cold and blustery night at the Empire State Building, made even more challenging by the no-tripod policy. One is forced to muster enough determination to get decent shots. My motivation is the $25 fee I had to pay to get up there; I had to get my money's worth.

One of the most popular outdoor observatories in the world can be found in the Empire State Building, gathering over 110 million visitors. The 86th-floor observation deck offers impressive 360-degree views of the city. A second observation deck is also available on the 102nd floor.

You've seen the view from the Top of the Rock, now here's one from the observation deck of the Empire State Building looking northeast to the Chrysler Building and the Queensboro Bridge. The Queensboro Bridge, also known as the 59th Street Bridge, crosses the East River and connects the Upper East Side, Roosevelt Island and Queens.

The 70th floor observation deck of the Top of Rock can be accessed through the GE Building in Rockefeller Center. From here, one can take in lovely views of the Empire State Building like you see here, Central Park, the landmark bridges and as far as the Statue of Liberty on the Hudson river.

New York City - Window View of Empire State Building

Empire State Building from Top of the Rock - New York City.

I'm breaking up the Carnevale series for a bit to bring you this photo from NYC, photographed from the Top of the Rock.

The 70th floor observation deck of the Top of Rock can be accessed through the GE Building in Rockefeller Center. From here, one can take in lovely views of the Empire State Building like you see here, Central Park, the landmark bridges and as far as the Statue of Liberty on the Hudson river. At this golden hour when the sun is just slowly making its way into the horizon, the light sends off warm tones inside the building as well.

You can also see the new and unfinished One World Trade Center to the right of the Empire State Building. It is now the tallest building in NYC.

Fira, also known as Thira, is the capital of Santorini. It is perched 260 meters high on the edge of the caldera offering a great panorama over the submerged volcano. During the summertime, Fira appears to be a busy metropolis as cruise ships from all over the Mediterranean and the Aegean Sea stop at the old port to visit the island.

Perast - Dark Clouds over Our Lady of the Rock

Our Lady of the Rock | Gospa od Škrpjela - Perast, Montenegro.

Our Lady of the Rock is one of the two islets off the coast of Perast in Bay of Kotor, Montenegro. There's a local legend that says the islet was made by sailors over the centuries. After finding the icon of Madonna and Child on the rock in the sea on July 22, 1452, they all made a solemn oath to build an island. So they all threw a rock in the bay after they have returned from each successful voyage. Over time, these rocks have formed an island. The custom of throwing rocks into the sea is alive even to this date. Every year on the sunset of July 22, local residents celebrate an event called fašinada, where they take their boats and throw rocks into the sea.

London - Beefing Up Security at The Shard Air Space

For obvious reasons relating to the great event of the Olympics, they're beefing up security around the city, not only on ground but also in the air space. Two choppers (and more, not seen here) hover around the newest and tallest London skyscraper, The Shard.

Now the tallest skyscraper in London, the Shard (also known as Shard London Bridge, the London Bridge Tower, or the Shard of Glass) stands at 309.6 metres (1,016 ft) high. The Shard is also the tallest building in Europe, and is also the second tallest free-standing structure in the United Kingdom. This tower was designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano, best known for creating Paris’s Pompidou Centre, in collaboration with Britain’s Richard Rogers. The Shard was inaugurated on 5 July 2012, and is scheduled to open to the public in February 2013.

Perast - Boat at Dusk

City of Perast on the Bay of Kotor, Montenegro.

Perast, an old Baroque town in Montenegro, lies at the foothills of St. Elijah on a cape that separates the Bay of Risano from that of Kotor, and overlooks the Verige strait, the narrowest part of the bay of Kotor. Perast was owned by the Republic of Venice between 1420 and 1797. The city has 16 Baroque palaces, 17 Catholic churches and 2 Orthodox churches. It is most visited for its two small islands: St. George and Our Lady of the Rock. The City of Perast has a population of only over 300.

Kotor - Early Morning View of Bay of Kotor from St. John Mountain

Kotor - Bay of Kotor - Montenegro.

I probably didn't need to do a long exposure on this one, but sometimes I can't stand ripples on my water.

It takes about a thousand (1,355 to be exact, but I didn't count it myself) steps to get to the top of this mountain, and everyone who's been here will tell you it's worth it. Of course, the view is awesome as you can see. I just didn't understand why you had to pay 3 euros to toil up the mountain without really any facilities or any obvious services that make the climb easier for you.

Anyway, I still did it, and it's probably worth it.

A coastal city in Montenegro that is becoming more popular over the years with tourists coming by cruise ships, Kotor is located in a secluded part of the Gulf of Kotor. Its old Mediterranean port surrounded by an impressive city wall was built by the Republic of Venice. Its surrounding area, together with the limestone cliffs of Orjen and Lovćen, form an impressive and picturesque Mediterranean landscape. Kotor has one of the best preserved medieval old towns in the Adriatic and is a UNESCO world heritage site.

Perast - St. Nicholas Church at Sunset

Dominating the main square of Perast, you can find the present St. Nicholas Church. This church was built in 1616 although it has been said to have replaced an earlier church dating from 1564. Inside the church, there is a rich collection of paintings by famous Perast painter, Tripo Kokolja (1661-1713), as well as other valuable paintings and precious vestments from the 16th and 17th centuries in the treasury. St. Nicholas was named after the saint who is believed to be the patron saint of sailors.

Shot at dawn just after 5 a.m. on a cloudy yet beautiful morning, when the sleepy town of Perast still safely tucked in their beds. All except for one of course. The town of Perast is so small, population of about 300, that I felt like everyone seemed to know that there was a photographer in town. And I was happy to have been part of their home even just for a while.

Perast - Late Afternoon Light Over Old Town

Old Baroque Town of Perast - Bay of Kotor | Boka Kotorska - Perast, Montenegro.

What a refreshing feeling it is to be in the thick of nature - mountains, sea, islands - and if you mix that in with the great atmosphere of a charming old town, surely you've got an exhilarating experience. This is just one of the many rewards of travel and photography; the photos you create are merely a bonus.

Although it had been fairly nice and sunny for most of the day in Perast, towards the late afternoon thick clouds had rolled in. Thankfully, the winds decided to join them as well so I got to do some long exposures to capture motion.

Perast - Twilight over St. Nicholas Church and the Bay of Kotor

There are 7 towns on the Bay of Kotor - one just as beautiful as the other. So I had a difficult time choosing which one to see as I only had one night to spend in Montenegro. Perast is by far not the most popular one on the bay since the much larger Kotor, only a few kms away, is a port of call for cruise ships and thereby, attracts more tourists. But I think I know why I chose Perast - its charm reminded me of Hallstatt. It's one of those places you wish you had an extra day to merely sit around, do nothing but savor its beauty.

The Houses of Parliament or the Palace of Westminster can be found on the north bank of the River Thames, near Westminster Abbey and the government buildings of Whitehall and Downing Street. It is the meeting place of the two houses of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. At the north end of the Palace stands London's most famous Clock Tower which many have nicknamed Big Ben, but in fact, Big Ben is the heaviest of the five bells in the tower. The Clock Tower stands at 96.3 metres (316 ft) and holds the largest four-faced chiming clock in the world and is the third-tallest free-standing clock tower.

Perast - Boat Ride in the Bay of Kotor with St. George Island

My ride has arrived. These ladies are on their way to pick me up from where they had dropped me off at the island of Our Lady of the Rock. Seen behind them is St. George Island, one of the two islands in the middle of the bay.

The natural island of St. George (as opposed to the artificial island of Our Lady of the Rock which is situated next to it) contains Saint George Benedictine monastery from the 12th century and the old graveyard for Perast's old nobility .

Cusco - Iglesia la Compañia de Jesus in Plaza de Armas

Iglesia la Compaña de Jesus - Cusco, Peru.

The Church of the Society of Jesus or Iglesia La Compañía de Jesús is located next to the Cusco Cathedral in Plaza de Armas. Built in the late 16th century, the church was almost entirely ruined by the earthquake of 1650, but was rebuilt and finished 18 years later.

Like Cusco cathedral, La Compañía was also built on the site of an ancient palace, the Inca Huayna Cápac, which is said to be the most beautiful of all the Inca palaces.
