Upper Truckee Waterfall

Shot this one a few weeks ago but it needed a lot of TLC. Some sun filtering through here and there can add a lot of interest and depth but at the same time creates hot spots that need attention before posting. And then there was that beautiful high sierra blue sky in the background, as much as I like to include the it when possible it's always a lot of work but well worth the effort. Very happy with the results, hope you like it too.

High Sierra Valley and Mountain

This was shot last Saturday and the valley which is at 6,200' is already completely void of snow. The unnamed peak seen is 8'488' and althought it can't be seen Basin Peak is directly behind it at 9,017' I've been near the top of the unnamed peak and the view to the valley and surrounding area is spictular. I would share the name of the valley but much of it is private property and without permission to pass anyone entering would be trespassing. Totally wrong I know but that's the way it is.

Same project, a piece of the front area landscape at the Turtle Pond. Japanese Maples, Confers, Junipers and broad leaf plantings create a variety of colour and texture.

Do you like this one? Surreal I know but I found it really fun. I played with the sky for the longest time trying to make it look "real" but I kept coming back to this....it is real in my mind anyway and maybe this is what a sunrise over Folsom Lake would like on another planet in a galaxy far far away Hope you like it as much as I do.

The valley and foothills are alive with wildflowers blooming everywhere, it is such a treat to walk local trails looking here and there for color adding enjoyment to the day.

I've never had much success with these kind of images but this scene caught my eye. It had just finished raining and the rolling hills were bright green spotted here and there with oak trees sprouting new growth. That along with a bright blue sky filled with beautiful white puffy clouds along with a few storm clouds was just too much to ignore.

An unexpected jewel discovered on the South Yuba Trail. Found a few of these beauties at the end of a long day of photo and hiking. Couldn't have been more than 15 or 20 of them and only in a very small area. I would have liked to spent more time cleaning up the background area but I was tired and even the dogs where anxious about getting back to the car and homeward bound.

I see this waterfall every year when a few of us do our annual South Yuba Epic 35-37 mile mountain bike ride in this beautiful area just north of Nevada City. The best time to ride the South Yuba is in the winter and very early spring before the poison oak takes over the trail and before the summer heat takes all the joy out of riding there. The interesting thing I noticed about this year compared to last is how the water flow has changed. Last year (see my pictures posted 12/7/12 which was shot May of 2012) there was only a trickle of water on the left side with the majority of water on the right side. As you can see in this years picture the flow has changed dramatically with most of the water flowing on the left. I wanted to climb to the top to see what was redirecting the water but the banks are so steep on both sides I decided to save my energy for the long hike bank to the trailhead.

This is a setting I visited several times last year but was never totally happy with the results. The landscape image here is a small piece of a large pano I'm working on which I hope to compete in the next few days. What I particularly like about this image is the barn and lone oak tree in the lower center right side, something that I think will be lost in the full pano image.
