Soon my 2 year old and 5 year old children will ride back home together on the Yuba Mundo + Burley Piccolo seen here (aka "The Yuba Train").

It as a beautiful, bug free camping spot.

The 2 year old and his Yepp Maxi car seat are going to meet us there, and the three of us are going to ride back in the morning.

So, we've got camping gear for three on board here.

I convinced my wife she would enjoy riding bike that weighed less than the 100 lb cargo bikes she usually rides.

We were able to pick up a his-and-hers pair of never-ridden Panasonic Tourist bikes. The 1986 vintage bikes were hard to pass up at near yard sale prices.

She says all it needs now is a mirror, lights, a bell, a new seat and seatpost, some new pedals, a basket and a cute bike bag...

Welcome here as a new bike blogging mother.

While I usually drop off two kids by bike twice a week, on this day I also needed to drop off the dog at the vet.

Thankfully the dog makes an excellent passenger and everything went smoothly.

Sometimes it's hard just getting out the door with two small kids and a dog

Yuba Train Rolls Along

The "Yuba Train" (as my wife calls it) continues to get a lot of use.

Although it has about 30 lbs of work electric assist gear on board, tonight she took the scenic route to dinner and back and never used the electric assist.

It was a fun fitness ride, and my daughter was added a significant contribution through her own pedaling as well.

At 5, our daughter already has a good sense of when to shift gears on the Piccolo, helps us to get the most out of her contribution.

Tomorrow she may attempt a solo grocery trip with two kids by bike.

So far my family is loving the combination of Yuba Mundo + Burley Piccolo + Bread Basket.

Baskets have that great throw-and-go quality and my wife remarked what a difference she notices from my daughter's pedaling contribution. In fact, she used very little electric assist on this trip, even though carrying around the electric gear as dead weight adds about another 30 lbs of weight.

The whole thing seemed to handle well despite the overall weight and 10 foot length.

The electric assist was still welcome when overcoming inertia on hill starts, or quickly entering a traffic stream.

rolling with a pressure cooker

Following up on the popular rolling with a rice cooker photo, here's "rolling with an Instant Pot". It's a digital pressure cooker, rice cooker and slow cooker all rolled into one.

We had just borrowed it to try and I was impressed. I used it to make a bean and potato chili and was able to start with dry beans, raw potatos. It also has a "Sautee" button, so I used that to start the recipe off, and then threw everything else in and pressed the "Bean/Chili" button. After just about 30 minutes of pressure cooking it automatically put itself on "warm" mode and started to pressurize.

The pressure cooker will also speed up cooking brown rice. I expect we will trade in our rice cooker for one of these.

And hey, with Yuba's Bread Basket, you can still take the 6.6 quart model to an event full or empty with some room to spare!
