Once in a Blue Moon

I have heard the saying, “once in a blue moon” my whole life and had no idea what the meaning of the saying was. Now I do. The term Blue Moon refers to the second full moon in a given month. When people say "once in a blue moon" they are speaking to the rarity of the occurrence of a second moon happening in the same given month. August 2012 - is one of these unique months, which will have two full moons. There will be a full moon on August 2nd/3rd , and then another full moon on August 31st.

The Venus Transit Sunset

This will be the last time I will have the opportunity to see this astronomical event. The next time that Venus will transit the sun will be 2117. Longevity runs in my family but I doubt I make the next one. It was an enjoyable and rare show, but I must admit, it was a spectacular sunset even without the rare event. The best part of the event was spending time with “Sherpa” AKA husband and friends Taken at Cadron Settlement Park overlooking the Arkansas River in Conway.
