Neorenaissance townhall: stone, brick and slate.
I enjoyed doing the octagonal spire.
Excellent drawing location: café terrace with a good cup of coffee.

Not a bad place to stay, this centuries old farmhouse, now converted to a "chambres d'hote" (bed and breakfast.). Strongly recommended.

Neobaroque chapel on a hill, overlooking the valley of the river Dender.
I tried to make a sort of wide angle picture, so some distortion is unavoidable.
It is a pilgimage site. The interior of the chapel is covered with votive tablets.

Triavna is a well preserved city with traditional anatolian style wooden houses, cobbled streets and stone bridges.
The square stone base of the clocktower (1844) is strengthened by horizontal wooden beams.

All over France you see pigeonhouses.
This stone one struck me because of its massiveness.
The owner told me that the grey horzontal band in the middleis of slate, and meant to stop insects from climbing the walls to the roof (where they would eat the wood construction).

The village is tucked away in the valley.
You drive over a high, rather monotonous, plateau and then, suddenly this view appears!
This feature makes the Picardie so surprising.
The stone spire is of the "look through" type.

Lessines is an old mining city.
This building/machine was meant to dump pieces of porphiry stone, which were brought by railway wagons, into the boats in the canal, for further transport.
I was struck by the no-nonsens architecture of this industrial building, and it's state of decay.
It is locally known as "le Truc" (the Thing).

The farmhouse is called "Hoeve Weverbergh" and dates from the XVIII century.
