VFW-Fokker VFW-614 D-ADAM restoration

B737NG posted a photo:

The VFW-Fokker 614 (also VFW 614) was a twin-engined jetliner designed and built in West Germany. It was produced in small numbers by VFW-Fokker in the early- to mid-1970s. It was originally intended as a DC-3 replacement. Its most distinctive feature was that its engines were mounted in pods on pylons above the wing.

Only three airlines and the Luftwaffe operated new VFW 614s.[6] The aircraft was initially prone to engine problems, and it was too expensive for the small regional airlines for whose needs it was designed.[7] Three aircraft were flown but never delivered, and four airframes were broken up before completion. The programme was officially cancelled in 1977, and the last unsold aircraft flew in July 1978. Most aircraft had been disposed of by 1981, with the manufacturer buying back the aircraft and simultaneously ending support of it.[citation needed] Thereafter, only the Luftwaffe aircraft remained in service, the last being retired in 1999. The last airworthy VFW 614 was in use with DLR for the Advanced Technologies Testing Aircraft System (ATTAS) project. After being based with DLR in Braunschweig, Germany for many years, this aircraft (registered D-ADAM) was retired in December, 2012 to the Deutsches Museum Flugwerft in Oberschleissheim, Germany.
VTOL Dornier-31E3 D-9531 Flight deck

B737NG posted a photo:

The Dornier Do 31was the only VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) transport aircraft with jet engines ever built. It was developed to meet military requirements, but never went into production. Two prototypes were used between 1967–1969 as experimental aircraft for researching and testing VTOL flight.

The Do 31 was conceived as a transport air craft for supplying small airfields. The fuselage was designed to carry a 3-ton NATO lorry that could drive up a rear ramp into the cargo hold. To lift the aircraft vertically into the air with its take-off weight of 21 metric tons, the design called for 10 engines with total thrust of 300 kN. Under the wings, two lift/cruise engines are mounted with swivelling nozzles to deliver thrust during VTOL manoeuvres and in horizontal flight. At each wing tip, four additional lift engines in nacelles are firmly built in and support vertical take-offs and landing.

After testing, the Do 31 E-3 was turned over to the Deutsches Museum. For more than 20 years it was on display in an eye-catching location in front of the main entrance of the museum in the centre of Munich. In 1995 it was moved to the Flugwerft, where it was restored over a five-year period.

The Ponte Vecchio ("Old Bridge", Italian pronunciation: [ˈponte ˈvɛkkjo]) is a Medieval stone closed-spandrel segmental arch bridge over the Arno River, in Florence, Italy, noted for still having shops built along it, as was once common. Butchers initially occupied the shops; the present tenants are jewellers, art dealers and souvenir sellers. The Ponte Vecchio's two neighbouring bridges are the Ponte Santa Trinita and the Ponte alle Grazie.

The single-seater multipurpose fighter plane MiG-21 was a standard USSR plane in the 1970s and 1980s, and one of the most-built supersonic aircraft in the world. The plane was built in numerous versions between 1958 and 1984 and developed into one of the most-built fighter aircraft of the postwar period. It is estimated that a total of 11,000 planes were produced. In 1990, the East German military aircraft became the property of the Bundeswehr following German reunification, and were gradually scrapped in the subsequent years under the CSCE disarmament treaties. A few planes were secured beforehand for museums. When the MiG-21 was taken over by the Bundesluftwaffe in 1990, the DDR insignia were painted over. The original NVA markings on the plane exhibited at the Flugwerft have been uncovered.
The single-seater, low-wing Yak-50 is one of the most renowned and outstanding aerobatics planes of the 1970s. At the World Aerobatics Championships in Kiev, Ukraine, a year after the plane was introduced, the Soviet aerobatic pilots demonstrated not only their own skills, but also the performance of the new plane. First and second prize in the men’s competition and the first five places in the women’s competition went to Soviet pilots flying the new Yak. The exhibited plane was one of several Yak-50s flown by GDR aerobatic pilots. After six years of flying they were put into storage in 1985 and acquired by the Deutsches Museum in 1993.

B737NG posted a photo:

Developed from the earlier Yakovlev fighters that included the successful Yak-3 and Yak-7, the Yak-9, when it first entered combat in 1942, was simply a lighter version of the former. The Yak-9 eventually was built in many different versions. Most were optimized for ground attack.

The Museum's Yak-9 is a rare, rebuilt original aircraft. Doug Champlin first learned of it during a trip to Russia in 1992. Shortly afterwards, Art Williams was hired to find and acquire it. Williams traveled to Novosibirsk, Siberia, and after consummating the acquisition, arranged for the Yak-9 to be transferred to Moscow via the Siberian railroad. The trip took four days under constant guard.

Once the Yak-9 was safely stored in Moscow, Sergei Kotov arranged for a restoration team to rebuild it. This work took two years to complete. In 1996, the Yak-9 was shipped to The Champlin Museum in Mesa, Arizona.

The Museum's Yak-9 is one of four original aircraft known. It is the only original Yak-9 on display in the West. It is equipped with an original engine and propeller, and all instrumentation and other miscellaneous parts are of original Russian manufacture. The aircraft is painted in the markings of the Russian World War II ace, Gen Maesky.
