A lone brick smokestack is all the remains of a clay tile factory near Griffin,IL. It's about 100 foot tall, in the middle of literally nowhere.

I challenge anyone to locate Griffin,IL on a map. Good luck.

Henry County tree planter

Directions--1)Take one unused tile brick silo-2) plant a tree inside it-3) and voila, you have a tree planter. This process may take years, results may vary.

This is a local conversation piece at this nicely maintained farm with this ash tree growing inside this old silo.

Louis Stoll bought the business from an associate and constructed this building in 1914 to make soft drinks, high quality soda waters, ciders, and temperance beverages.

Note the unique mosiac tile sign at the top.

This handsome tile brick barn appears to have a somber gaze as it looks toward the western sky in rural Muscatine County.

The abandoned barn is located next to the Raccoon House (seen in photostream).

Knoll Crest

I've shot this round barn before, but now have the history of it.

The barn was built in 1914 by Benton Steele, a noted builder/architect, for the Nebergall family in rural Scott County Iowa. It is a true round barn that measures 56 feet around. The lower half is built from clay tile blocks and has square windows. The upper portion is of board and batten siding with rectangular windows. The hayforks and manure track system are original and in working order. It is the only known example of Steele's work that remains in Iowa.

This is probably the largest oval clay tile corn crib I've seen to date. It looked to be in perfect condition on a neatly manicured farmstead in rural Clinton County,IA.

I happened by this red tile block barn and liked the look of the contrasting white window.

The Plagmann Round barn, built in 1912, sits west of Conroy,IA. It is 100 foot across, has a two pitch roof, a 16 foot silo, and is constructed of clay tile.

It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

I'm pretty sure this one won't make it to MTV's Cribs, but this is probably the most unique corn crib I have ever seen.

Round, clay tile bricks, and a little cupola on top make this an interesting sight on this abandoned farm in Iowa.

I wanted to take it home.

This great neon sign has welcomed patrons to Lagomarcino's for decades. First opened in 1908 by Angelo Lagomarcino, he moved into this building in 1918 and has beautiful furnishings and appointments. Tiffany lamps, mosiac tile floors to match the lamps, candy and cigar cases from the original tenant, booths, and a tin ceiling dating from 1894.

Stop in for old fashioned sodas, lunch, homemade ice cream, and to die for handmade chocolates and still run by fourth generation "Lagos."

With no offense to Farmer Browns everywhere, I couldn't resist taking this photo looking up from inside this tile brick silo.

Instructions are as follows--
1. Step into silo.
2. Look up.
3. Works only at night.
4. Range of view very limited.

I wonder what I would see through this at night. I may have to return.
