Franklin Falls - High Flow

Coop Photography posted a photo:

Must View Large!
This is a shot of Franklin Falls on Denny Creek. This is at a significantly higher water level than I expected and boy was there a ton of water! This is as close to the falls as I got because the spray was like sheets of rain where this photo was taken... I didn't dare go further and I certainly didn't dare go into the water like I did when the water was lower. And there is a hint of a rainbow to the right of the falls.
One of my big trips over the summer was a trip to the San Juan Islands. We only went to Lopez Island because my dad had a house reserved for a few days. It was a relaxing time. We hung out around the house, enjoyed the views, explored the island and watched the stars. There isn't much on the island, but it was a really fun trip! Plus, on the way home I got to stop at Franklin Falls. :)
Thanks for viewing!
Happy Waterfall Wednesday!
This is a shot of Starvation Creek Falls. I decided to go for a short spring trip to the Gorge and this is one of my favorite spots. Being mid-spring the water flow was pretty high. At the end of the day I drove on into the Portland area to see a gallery that Gary Randall had set up. It was very well done. Good work Gary!
This is a shot of Palouse Falls with some pretty high water flow. It is a pretty amazing experience to stand here. The Falls feel a whole lot bigger too. :) I can't believe people went off it it in a kayak..... It took some fun off-roading to get here. Altogether it was a great trip!
Just Another Day

Tired of these yet? :) This is a shot of the sunset from Little Badger Mountain. I have been coming up here a lot recently now that the Balsamroot flowers are in full bloom. Today I went up because there were some clouds moving through so I was hoping to get a great sunset, but just got a mediocre one instead. I felt it was worth posting though. It was also getting windy, so I had to keep the shutter speed pretty quick, while keeping the apperature at a moderate level to keep depth of field... so I ran the ISO all the way up at 3200. I'm pretty impressed with the D90's performance at high ISO!

Must View Large!!!
This is a shot of a gnarled tree just behind the viewpoint at Palouse Falls, Washington. I made a trip up here hoping to get a good shot of the moon right over the falls at sunset. After I took this shot, I turned around to see the sun setting in the west with this rather curious looking tree. I think it made a really good composition and you can expect to see more next time I visit the falls!

Be sure to check out the horizontal comp and let me know which you like better!

This is a vertorama of "Upper" Palouse Falls, Washington. It is really just a large rapid above the falls. This shot was taken from a trail that goes around the park. I made a trip up here hoping to get a good shot of the moon right over the falls at sunset. While waiting for the moon rise, I walked around the area and took other pictures. I was walking around looking for a new comp. I found a couple of places I like. I really wanted to go part way down the cliff and get a shot from the trail/ledge, but there had been a lot of rain recently and it was pretty slick, so I didn’t risk it. This is two shots vertically stitched together.

This is a vertorama of Palouse Falls, Washington. This shot was taken from an overhanging ledge of basalt…… It was pretty precarious, but also a great viewpoint!
Must View Large!!!
This is a shot of Palouse Falls, Washington. After spending the day in Spokane, I decided to take the long way home and make a stop at Palouse falls. I pretty much barely made it there in time for sunset. The amount of water going over the falls was insane!!! Thanks to the warm temperatures at the time, almost every river in the state was a flood level. From being so high and flowing so fast, the Palouse River was a pretty muddy brown, which reminded me of chocolate milk at the time. :)
Palouse Falls Sunset - Mega-Pano

Must View Large!!!
This is a mega-pano of Palouse Falls, Washington and is composed of 2 rows of 4 images stitched together. :)
Another thing of interest to me was that the moon rose almost directly over the falls… My dad and I went home and did some calculations with astronomy and Google earth and discovered that on February 17, the moon would rise directly over the falls AND it would rise just before sunset. This means that there will be plenty of light in the sky and on the falls, so I can get the moon and the falls correctly exposed with the moon over the fall, all in one shot! Problem is, the weather has to hold up. :)

Happy Waterfall Wednesday!
The amount of water going over the falls was insane!!! Thanks to the warm temperatures at the time, almost every river in the state was a flood level. From being so high and flowing so fast, the Palouse River was a pretty muddy brown, which reminded me of chocolate milk at the time.
This is a shot of Upper Spokane Falls, in downtown Spokane, Washington. It was during that really warm streak of weather we had that caused widespread flooding. I figured since I was going to be in Spokane anyway, I might as well see the falls at near flood level. I kept the exposure time at about 1/5 of a second to have emphasis on the crashing water and the texture, instead of making it a big blob of white.
I kept the exposure time at about 1/2 of a second to have emphasis on the crashing water and the texture, instead of making it a big blob of white. I like this one because even though I had the fairly short exposure time to leave texture, the majority of the white water smoothed out amazingly well. I think it turned out pretty nice.
Upper Spokane Falls Mega-Panorama

Must View Large!!!
This is a mega-panorama of Upper Spokane Falls, in downtown Spokane, Washington. It was during that really warm streak of weather we had that caused widespread flooding. I figured since I was going to be in Spokane anyway, I might as well see the falls at near flood level. This is composed two rows of three images stitched together.
This was taken from the footbridge in Riverfront Park.
