There was a nearly 24-hour power outage while we were in Nova Scotia last week. Since the snake enclosure uses electric heat, we took turns keeping Stilgar warm for the duration.

The peppers that I wintered over in my kitchen window seem to be doing okay. Soon, I'll move them outside and I probably won't see another flower for months.

Lunar Eclipse Composite

I took this over 40 minutes last night. The images are two minutes apart. I tried to keep the relative position of the moon accurate between photos but the arc isn't quite right. I'll redo the composite image later and replace this one. This composite is made up of 5 composite shots since I changed the camera angle 4 times to keep the moon in frame.

strobist:
Off camera sun 93,000,000 miles directly behind camera. Shadow of photographer's stand can intentionally be seen on subject.
Between each shot, the stand was moved 2200 miles to shadow more of the subject.

Late in the day on Saturday after walking around San Francisco all day. I decided to make the run over to M5 Industries where Mythbusters is filmed. I got in my rental car at Golden Gate Park, opened up Google Maps on my Tréo and entered M5 in to find nearby businesses. After following the instructions to get to the deep industrial section of eastern San Francisco, I managed to find a parking spot and take a few snapshots before it was completely dark. This was a 3 second exposure.

I should have gotten out my flashes and used my Strobist skills but it was late and I was hungry and tired.

This was my wife's idea. Sort of. Not the part about lighting a fire in the garage, but the idea of the glass looking all hot and sweaty and the tantalizing bottle of water right there.

I haven't decided whether to go with this new idea or stick with the original. I like the fire and I like the splash but it was just too dangerous to do them both.

I had some pictures of the setup, but I didn't bother with a tripod for those and they turned out embarassingly blury. Not that I didn't expect that at the time, I just didn't remember to re-shoot those when I was cleaning up. Basically I used the same table as my first water shot, the piece of paper I was using as a reflector is the background here and I grabbed a scrap of stainless steel from the basement to pour white gas (coleman fuel) onto and light on fire. To give the glass a sweaty look, I just spritzed it with water.
