Tonight I'll be madly covering things in the garden. We have a freeze/frost warning - boo hoo! I usually put out the first wave of annuals on Mothers Day weekend, although our frost date in Maryland is really later than that. Pay your money, take your chances!

First, the texture is called lacerations by vintage findings. I like it, thanks, Karen!

I've been looking at this for several days now, wondering what's bothering me about it. There are many things I like about it.

I've finally decided that it's like a sentence with no subject! I've got a verb, prepositions, adjectives, nouns, dangling participles, gerunds (or is that gerbils?), etc - but no SUBJECT! No main focal point. What do you think?

UP at 5am on my day off (yes, I guess I'm nuts). Drove 45 minutes north, into Pennsylvania, where I went to a funeral last Monday. The countryside was beautiful and I wanted to try an early morning capture. Alas, weather was not cooperative...

Parked at the front door because I probably came in to freshen up my coffee or use the WC (which are alternating activities, you know). They used to be a good pair of loafers (Bass, my fave brand), my go-to-work shoes, but slowly, slowly they lose their niceness and aren't fit to go anywhere in. Then they become my gardening shoes. OMG, they are so totally comfortable!

And when they're too falling apart to wear anymore, I suppose I could plant hens-n-chicks in them?

Brought home some cuttings from my trip to Wisconsin earlier this month. All over the countryside we saw the beautiful color of red twig dogwood in the somber winter landscape. Because this is back lit, it's hard to tell how red they are. I'm hoping they root. Right now they are just leafing out prettily. Fingers crossed. Am thinking about trying a natural root stimulant by making some willow water.

I had a clump of these sweet spring bloomers at one side of my front door. Last summer when I refurbished those beds, I dug the bulbs all up and threw 'um in a bucket. When I replanted, I divided them and put a clump on each side of the front door. Well, boy, were they ever happy about that! This spring they've bloomed like never before and I've thoroughly enjoyed them. By summer they'll be a distant memory, resting beneath the soil til next spring. Such sweet, dainty little blue flowers, make me smile.

'Lavender Falls' Japanese Wisteria
I just planted this at one of the posts of the pergola last fall. It's only about 3-4 feet tall right now, so it's got some growing and climbing to do yet. But I have no problem at all imagining myself sitting under the pergola in a couple years with these fragrant beauties dangling from above. Gardeners are patient folks!

I wish I were good at bird shots, but I'm not. I wanted to capture Mr. & Mrs. cardinal this morning as they were feeding in the grass where I scattered seed for them. And then the Mr. caught a moth and, ever so gentlemanly he is, he took it over and fed it to the Mrs. I wanted you to see that, but (go back to the first sentence). So, instead, I'm sharing lecojum blossoms.
