Leptoglossus phyllopus: insect on yucca, enhanced

Martin LaBar (going on hiatus) posted a photo:

This was walking (not in December) on a neighbor's yucca plant, which was in bloom. There were more of the same kind of insect on the same plant. I assume that it's a Hemipteran (true bug) but don't know anything else. Any help in identification would be appreciated.

Treegrow (see comment below) tells us that this is Leptoglossus phyllopus. One common name is Florida leaf-footed bug. Thanks, Treegrow!

Assassin bug, I believe, on yucca

Martin LaBar (going on hiatus) posted a photo:

OK. This is a requirement. You have to go to the larger size on this photo. This means you!

Sorry to be so aggressive . . .

There's an original size, which is even larger, but I won't scream at you about that one.

One of the next-door neighbors has a yucca plant. I was going to take some photos of the flower, but I found this creature, which, I believe, is an assassin bug, walking along the stem. You can see details, especially the eye and the antenna, at the larger size.

Why are they called assassin bugs? The Wikipedia article on this family says that "They use the long rostrum to inject a lethal saliva that liquefies the insides of the prey, which are then sucked out." Well, that's an ecological niche, too.

I don't believe that this is the same species as the bugs in the photo I uploaded yesterday.

Thanks for going to the larger size!

The third, and last, photo of some yuccas in New Mexico. These plants were about 2 1/2 meters/yards tall, and the flowers were perhaps an inch and a half/0.5 dm across. I think they are even more beautiful at the larger sizes.

Go here for a view of two yucca flower stalks, taken in the same area.
Our last shot from the beautiful redrock country, near Sedona, Arizona. This is along Arizona highway 179. Isn't God a great artist!

An
article published in MSN identifies this highway as one of the 10 most scenic drives in the US. We agree.

Better at the larger sizes.
