The third (southern) light i the eastern window depicts Rahere, founder of the hospital with St Bartholomew. The windows were a gift of the Worshipful Company of Glaziers to replace windows destroyed by enemy action in 1944.They were designed by Hugh Easton in 1950.

The scroll by Rahere's foot names him and identifies him as 'Founder'.

East window, St Luke. Windows designed by Hugh Easton in 1950 replaced those destroyed by enemy action in 1944.

St Luke is patron saint of physicians and (inter alia) stained glass workers. In situ he faces the central light in the east end of the church which is the BVM holding the infant Christ; the drawings he is holding depicts the design of that window.

A real chandelier, and although the candles were lit the bright light from the window over the entrance makes this rather difficult to spot. Originally this hung in St Vincent Cathedral, West Indies. Exactly how it came to Ludgate Hill is uncertain.

Pear Tree Court first appeared on the map about the year 1683, exactly 150 years after Henry VIII had closed St Mary's Nunnery which occupied the site to the south and east of here. In those days religious communities were largely self sufficient; they owned extensive land incorporating fields for cattle and sheep, and their vegetable gardens often yielded a sufficient supply of fruit and vegetables for their own needs and to sell. It seems very likely that in this corner of their land was an orchard where, among apple and plum trees, there were also pear trees.

Its full name, St Sepulchre-without-Newgate recalls darker days when this church, now regarded as The National Musicians' Church, stood hard by the notorious Newgate Prison. Today Newgate is no more and its site is occupied by the central criminal court, the Old Bailey.

The bronze statue of Lady Justice by British sculptor F. W. Pomeroy and the august building itself tuned into a reflection of almost Mont-like nature by today's slight breeze rippling the surface of the water.

An unusual, but beautiful rood.
The original having been destroyed along with most of the church in WWII, the modern rood was made in Oberamagau and was a gift from the German people to St Mary’s after the War.

The sad truth was that this gull, though he didn't know it, was simply not up to CW's standards. If there was an X Factor for gulls he would not make it through the initial auditions.
