Ronald van Wuijtswinkel donates 20,000 euro on behalf of the foundation CharITy to the recently launched Bits4Green initiative with an online donation. Bits4Green focuses on reducing energy consumption and e-waste in developing countries through donation from Dutch IT-organisation.

Coffee farmer looks up pesticide information on her mobile phone

Oeganda, Bwera, 25-11-2012, a farmer is holding a bottle of pesticide and standing next to her coffee plants. She is on her mobile phone, to contact the Bwera Information centre and find out more about this pesticide before using it. Farmers can also look in the digital database that the centre has for current market prices and where to store produce until the market prices go up again. Farmers also come to the Bwera information centre for computer training, or to find information about farming, weather information and more. This system was set up and is supported by a number of dutch organisations including the International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD), SNV and Hivos, as well as the Uganda Commodity Exchange (UCE).

Pag la Yiri is a women organisation, and even though there are female radio presenters, up till now, the radio station did not yet programme content for women specifically. With the support of IICD and Dutch capacity building organisation PSO, Pag la Yiri will actively experiment with developing targeted content for women, as well as integrating gender topics in existing programmes.
