derelict Casino Carousel Building, Asbury Park

The Casino Carousel House was designed by Whitney Warren (one of the men who designed NYC’s Grand Central Station), and it used to house the Philadelphia Toboggan Company Carousel #87, which was installed around 1923. I don’t know exactly when the carousel was removed from Asbury Park, but parts of it can now be found at Family Kingdom Park in Myrtle Beach, SC. (The horses are not the original ones, but some of them are said to be cast from the originals.)

I need a break from winter and working overtime on the weekend. This is circa 1999 when Asbury Park was a ghost town. It's in the process of being renovated now - the Carousel Building has been saved, the Palace sadly, was demolished, although Tillie (that bizarre smiling guy) was saved.

something very poignant about old rusting cars... makes me wonder what things were like when they were new and loved. It was parked at the front of the house in the preceding shot, so maybe it's still loved.
Because I was so intrigued by the car, I didn't notice the huge satellite dish in the background at first. Then I started thinking maybe the whole set-up was part of some covert operation and the entrance to a huge underground bunker... or I probably needed lunch.

The ruins of the Cora Timkin estate on the Palisades - taken with my very first, fairly crappy 35mm camera and showcasing beautifully the limitations of a 50mm lens for interiors. I can find very little information about the house; what I did find is pretty intriguing - would love to have seen the place in it's heyday... hard to imagine from these ruins.
