Katrina and the Waves

Hurricane Katrina was hundreds of miles away from Galveston yesterday, but she still churned up the Gulf waters. Our waves are usually just ripples, but not yesterday.

My thoughts and prayers are with our neighbors to the east who bore the brunt of Katrina's wrath.

Hurricane Katrina is hundreds of miles away, but she still churned up the Gulf waters in Galveston. Here a surfer enjoys five-foot waves - a rarity in these parts. Waves are expected to peak at about 12 feet tomorrow.

My thoughts and prayers are with those along the Gulf Coast who will come face-to-face with Katrina tomorrow.

Like a tide of good fortune, Flickr swept into my life five years ago today, and nothing has been the same since. I wouldn't be a photographer today, professional or otherwise without Flickr. I wouldn't have made nearly as many wonderfully creative, kind and intelligent friends without Flickr. I wouldn't have, when I come to think about it, been fully "nourished" without Flickr.

Thank you to everyone for everything. For each comment. For each fave. For each delicious morsel of inspiration. Thank you. Big hugs all around.

(This is just a photo that I pulled out of archives from May of 2005. It was my fourth month on Flickr and my last day using my old Sony Cybershot as my primary camera. Taken five-ish years ago, processed today.)

Hurricane Katrina is hundreds of miles away, but she still churned up the Gulf waters in Galveston. There were many more people out than usual this morning. Everyone seemed mesmerized by the waves.
