Despite menacing skies that eventually opened into a West Coast downpour, Bonny and I went for a stroll through Butchart Gardens today. Everything was moist and glistening with rain... fallen leaves sticking to leaves in a natural collage. I snapped some photos with my new treasure, a Leica D-LUX 4 compact camera found yesterday at a photo equipment traders store. Its Summicron lens is simply amazing in sharpness and detail - this image hardly does it justice, but it's a start.

Despite their bright pink and pearl grey livery, these galahs (Cacatua roseicapilla) manage to blend rather well in the canopy of a palm tree in which they found refuge from the sun.

Bunker Bay beach, near Cape Naturaliste in Western Australia. The waters of the Geographe Bay region south of Perth see at different times of year the migration of Southern Right and Humpback whales, and on occasion even a rare and endangered Blue Whale.
