Clint wanted to upgrade our video card after not being able to play 1080p movies for quite awhile.

This new one is cheaper ($170ish vs $220) and far,far more powerful... Milkdrop under Winamp is the most fluid and complex we've seen in our lives.

Of course, we still can't handle SBS 1080p 3-D, since the bottleneck for those is actually CPU, not GPU. Need 3GHz quad-core instead of 2.6GHz dual-core. Not gonna happen for awhile!

One of our 750G drives started to fail in Carolyn's computer. Granted the data was backed up -- so we swapped roles: Made this one the backup instead of the original, and made the backup the original. But this still made us realize that we needed a new harddrive. We reformatted the going-bad drive, and then re-backed the data up to it, and haven't had a problem yet. But still, it was good to be prepared for this old 750G drive to crash.

We decided to get a 2TB drive -- our fourth -- but Clint's computer is running out of physical room, and it already has all 6 SATA ports on the motherboard filled up with harddrives. We had to get a new SATA card to be able to add a 7th drive to Clint's computer, with the contingency that this new card would support the new drive on Carolyn's computer as well. (Carolyn's older Silicon Images SATA controller card doesn't seem to support SATA drives over 1TB, and Carolyn's Highpoint SATA controller card is already maxed out.)

This new card supports 4 internal SATA or you can enable it to support 2 eSATA ports (at the cost of losing 2 of the internal SATA cards). We tried to put the card and the new harddrive into Clint's computer, but we were thwarted when we didn't have a mounting bay to convert a 3.5" drive to a 5.25" bay. (We have since found one attached to a ZIP drive in an old computer.)

So the new drive went into Carolyn's computer afterall.... Bringing her computer back to having *THREE* SATA controller cards -- which is utterly insane. Her computer is meant to have zero SATA drives, not 5. But we just don't deal with IDE drives these days, except as a system drive for older computers like Carolyn's. (You really don't want your boot process to depend on any drive that requires a special controller.)

It'a also cool that cards are coming in so many different colors nowadays. My video card is red, my motherboard is blue, this card is black... Green is becoming passe.

Months later, we finally opened the DVDs we got from the yardsale on June 2nd. We discovered that the Spaced DVD was autographed by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost!! Win!

We suspected the guy was a stoner because he was really out of it, and had excellent taste in TV shows. He must have forgotten that his DVD was autographed. He really should have checked before selling it for one dollar!

But in summary: 6hr33min trip of 69.1mi spending $93.32 on gas & 75 purchases worth $826.40. $126.17/hr saved. It was one of our best yardsaleing expeditions of the year, and that was BEFORE we discovered this autograph 2 months later!

We meant to photograph these in the last picture, but we forget they were inside the metal tins.

Carolyn offered a dime for the strainer, which is the most badass-looking kitchen implement we have, not counting our titanium butcher knife.

We got the antenna for $1, and now we get 29 or so channels on the free airwaves... Half are so bad you wouldn't really want to watch them much, but many are in HD. Prior to installing the $1 antenna, we got 0.

Clint needed a mousepad, and Carolyn was going to bring the one from her work, but it was in bad shape... so nice to grab one.

The dual alarm-clock is just like our current alarm clock, but there's an outlet on the back, so, for example, you could hook up a strobe light to go off when your alarm clock goes off. The alarm clock has been modified by a group that modifies devices to work for the deaf. Neat. Wish we had something like that for our phone.

There was a lot of bargaining this trip.

Clint haggled for the beach ball paddles explaining that we needed ping pong paddles, and these would be suitable replacements until we can get some real ones.

Carolyn offered $2 for the suitcase which was marked as $5, and the lady compromised to $3.

Clint didn't even try to haggle for the massager. He tested it and was just like, "Sold."

Catherine got some good deals also. A man was selling an office chair for $30, and she talked him down to $15. She said, "All I have in my wallet is $15." The guy paused and said, "Well, to be honest.... I'll take that $15." Since it was raining, he realized this was his best bet to get rid of it. Sold!

Clint got his cassettes down from the attic because his GPS that he was using as an MP3 player died, and since the CD player in the car was already broken, he needed a way to listen to music in his car. So the temporary answer was: cassettes!

But then he bought a portable CD player from a yardsale for $2 which he now uses in conjuction with an adapter ($12, new) that converts the cigarete lighter insto a standard 3-prong wall-plug. He even found a 25-spindle of 80-minute-filled CDRs he burned a decade ago, so his real cds are not at risk being left in the car.

But meanwhile: CASSETTES!! ALPHABETIZED!! This is a long time coming.

BACKSTORY: The cats had been intersted in the "under the stove" area again lately, so Clint had removed the pots-and-pans drawer to allow them better access (as well as to place some roach bait traps... Though it's been record time since we've seen a roach, so they might be gone). Anyway, this led to Oranjello catching another mouse: The 28th mouse in our 13.5 years of living here.Oranjello is a good mouser, but then he brings them upstairs which is a bit disturbing. This time, he brought it back downstairs after showing it to us upstairs. It almost escaped, but Clint and Oranjello ran him into the corner of the open pantry door. "Grab me something to catch him in!", Clint yelled to Carolyn. She found this metal tin, and Clint was able to scoop it up into the tin, which seemed to also coincide with its moment of death, putting it out of its slow-cat-torture misery. It was bleeding from the mouth pretty profusely. Poor thing.However: One less house pest. Thank you, Oranjello. P.S. Dear Lemonjello: Why are you useless? Catch a mouse sometime!

BACKSTORY: The cats had been intersted in the "under the stove" area again lately, so Clint had removed the pots-and-pans drawer to allow them better access (as well as to place some roach bait traps... Though it's been record time since we've seen a roach, so they might be gone). Anyway, this led to Oranjello catching another mouse: The 28th mouse in our 13.5 years of living here. Oranjello is a good mouser, but then he brings them upstairs which is a bit disturbing. This time, he brought it back downstairs after showing it to us upstairs. It almost escaped, but Clint and Oranjello ran him into the corner of the open pantry door. "Grab me something to catch him in!", Clint yelled to Carolyn. She found this metal tin, and Clint was able to scoop it up into the tin, which seemed to also coincide with its moment of death, putting it out of its slow-cat-torture misery. It was bleeding from the mouth pretty profusely. Poor thing. However: One less house pest. Thank you, Oranjello. P.S. Dear Lemonjello: Why are you useless? Catch a mouse sometime!
