This seemed to be the most common warbler that we saw on our trip to Mexico. Most of my photos of them showed only a small part of the bird. But this little fellow seemed happy to show off his antics in a small palm tree a few feet away. Very entertaining!

There were many of these in the bushes at the resort where we stayed on the Riviera Maya. Most of my photos are much worse than this one! I'm fairly sure of the identification since we do see these during the summer in Vancouver.

These were taken on May 10th in Jericho Park from the "Pipeline Trail" where there is a clear view of some large willows. There were many Wilson's Warblers and Yellow-rumped Warblers hawking for insects from the high branches of these trees. This pair of photos shows a bird that is almost certainly a Yellow-rumped Warbler even though there is only the faintest trace of yellow in its colouring. Even without the colours to guide us, the cheek patch tells us it is a Male of the Myrtle population.

Wilson's Warbler

I'm getting behind in my posting due to the wonderful weather that has finally arrived in Vancouver. We didn't have any spring but summer has arrived early! I first saw Wilson's Warblers in Jericho Park on May 10th. These photos are from May 12th, Migratory Bird Day. They are all in the willows in the marshy area west of the ponds. There were many of them but they were mostly flitting around in the high branches of some tall willows. I got a few sharp and unobstructed shots with my Sigma 150-500mm lens at 500mm.

I have been seeing Yellow-Rumps of both Audubon and Myrtle populations since April 12th in many locations--Jericho Park, Stanley Park, Kitsilano Point. There were many of them on May 12th in the willows of the marshy area west of the ponds in Jericho Park, along with many Wilson's Warblers that have just appeared in the past week.

Seen at Jericho Park on August 8, 2011. I had crept through a path overgrown with Himalayan Blackberry branches and was struggling to free myself from their clutches when two Wilson's Warblers, a male and a female appeared to my right and left and perched on nearby brambles. I took many photos but unfortunately the VR setting on my lens had been accidentally set to OFF so most of the photos have a bit of motion blur. This was one of the best. I returned the next day to the same spot with my VR set to ON but the Warblers failed to appear!

This was taken in Jericho Park on August 10, 2011, in front of the tree on which the Brown Creeper that I posted earlier was creeping. It was a very dark setting and the bird was in constant motion but a few of the photos turned out.
