Laurel Falls in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.

During the crowded weekends, I found it is usually best to arrive at either before sunrise or near sunset. Usually, you almost have areas like this to yourself. And waterfalls are usually better shot with flat lighting rather than contrasty sunlight.

The new lighthouse at Luna Pier.

I went out early to a nearby beach, only to be greeted by overcast, gray skies, not to mention a few duck hunters not happy with me being there. So, I went into town hoping to find something. That's when small break in the clouds happened, allowing for a small window to shoot this new lighthouse.

Walking downtown, I saw a podium and a flag. Had camera, had a tripod, and no one to tell me I couldn't do this.

Angel of Youmacon

I was walking of out the RenCen with my kids on our way to the other events for Youmacon at Cobo. I had my Sony with me, and I got some shots, nothing really great though.

Then she came into the picture.

Acting in character, she effortlessly and gracefully floated over to me and struck the most beautiful pose. She patiently kept this pose up as I fumbled with my settings, all the way up until I shot this.

There were so many incredible and beautiful women there yesterday, dressed as their favorite Anime characters. But, this girl was in a class of her own. She was truly my Angel of Youmacon.

My wife and I sometimes discuss moving to a new home in a modern suburb, with two car garages, nice sidewalks, paved streets, and quiet neighbors.
But living right at the edge of one of Michigan's best state parks can almost be paradise, especially on mornings like today.

Even though the sun had set and there were no clouds, I still wanted to get a nice colorful shot of the changing colors. Thankfully, my trusty 70-300mm Quantaray Lens came out of the bag. This allowed me to tighten this shot with the only needed elements.

I arrived at Kensington a little late last night, but the winds were still pretty strong. With the rapids moving clouds, I decided to have a bit of fun with them using longer exposures.

Acting on a tip from the SE Michigan Photographers Facebook group, I took the camera out to the lake in the hopes of catching a rare Aurora Borealis.
This far South, we don't get to see them very often.

There are a few times in my adult life where I felt joy like a nine year old child. This was one of them.

I noticed that the herd was close to the fence near the basketball courts at Dominos Farms. As I got close to the fence line with my camera, a huge bull tried to charge me, only stopping at the electric fence. He kept repeating this, over and over, and I kept this game up until sunset. It was one of the most memorable times with wildlife and a camera in my hand.
