Sketch - Face Value

I made several portrait sketches for the test tube series and I was fairly pleased with all of them. I spent only a minute or two on each one, but they all felt like individuals to me. (No no, that's not me patting myself on the back. But you know how it is, when you make something and it feels like you made exactly what you saw in your head or what you made was actually better than what you saw in your head...) There are many more which I'll put online to share with you in the near(ish) future. When I'm able. And I'm not right now. I have my reasons.

Looks a little like Andre the Giant to me.

I'll just assume that we've all had these days, when we feel beaten, facing odds greater than we can possibly ever imagine overcoming. Or maybe it only happens to me. Like when I read about the water crisis, global warming, or the fact that slavery still exists. Maybe all I can do is exist as I know how and occupy my own little moment in space and time. Maybe I have to not be bold and ridiculous and egotistical enough to think I can do anything about the ills of the world. Maybe being this "me" that I currently am is all I'm meant to do, whatever that means. Most times I just don't know.

I found a photo of three people in full winter gear laying on a frozen lake while holding hands. It could be that they were pretending to sky dive, or maybe they were just being weird. I don't know. But when I drew them as a silhouette, it looked as if they were floating in space.

I like floating in space.

A silhouette from the test tube series of drawings I made toward the end of last year. October of 2009, to be exact. It's not that I've been procrastinating, either; I've been having some "technical difficulties" with my computer. At least, that's the story I'm giving to you, the adoring public which lives only in my mind.

Have you seen "The Delicious" before? If not, you might want to give it your time. Scott Prendergast is quite a human, able to vacantly stare off into nothingness with more intense focus than anyone I've ever had the pleasure of watching.
