A large wool mushroom scene I've just completed. Needle-felted wool with sewn details like a spider web and sporophytes.

I made the wood base from a large chunk of oak that I aged using vinegar and steel wool.

It stands about 14.5" tall to the top of the glass, my largest terrarium scene to date.

Little sprouts, a couple of pebbles, and even a velvet mite, all made of wool. I've set this scene into a piece of well-aged oak that still has some bug trails and knot holes. A wee 4" tall. It's bringing a little happy to my desk today.

A new mushroom scene I've made by needle-felting wool. This piece is my first that uses naturally dyed materials exclusively.

The grey "stones" are undyed natural wool. The other colors in the piece come from red onion, black walnut, bedstraw, pomegranate skins, strawberry leaf, and creeping charlie.

Two new pieces I've just completed. Wool mushroom scenes made by needle-felting, which means they were constructed by forcing wool fibers together into felt. The piece on the right is made with all naturally-dyed fibers.

The wood bases are made from branches that I've dried so the bark stays in tact.

A little project I worked on with my kids this weekend, mushrooms out of scrap leather. This one came from the leg of a pair of pants that was dyed in a gradient of red to yellow. Cool.

A whole lineup of tiny acorn ornaments I've made. I hollowed out acorn bodies and glued in tiny mushrooms I made out of wool. Crafts for squirrels.

A pair of tiny toadstools I needle felted out of the wool that I dyed with mushrooms this week.

The raspberry pink top with the pale pink french knots were dyed using lobster mushrooms.

The stems were dyed with Sulphur Shelf.

The underside of the cap (that you can't see here) was dyed using Phaeolus.

A pair of yellow amanitas under glass. They're made entirely of wool and sculpted together using a felting needle.

They're growing out of an old "Physiology of the Fungi" textbook from 1951.

Some lobster mushrooms sauteed in a little butter. They impart such a beautiful color and are wonderful in a cream sauce.

These were gathered from our woods. What didn't get eaten was used for dyeing fiber.

Lobster mushrooms and a few black trumpets in my gathering basket. The black trumpets were dried and the lobsters were eaten and used for dyeing fiber.
