An Outlaw Lawn Dragster pops a wheelie at the start of a race Sept. 15, 2007, in Goldendale, Wash., during the Festival of Wheels. The modified lawn mowers travel up to 65 mph in 2 seconds on the 100-foot-long straightaway course.

Bob Doughtery, who grew up in the Goodnoe Hills area east of Goldendale, describes the paintings donated to the Presby Museum on July 4, 2007. The paintings depict the (from left to right) the Dashney Homestead, the Maine Place and the Courtney Homestead.

Klickitat County sheriff Sgt. Peter Garland is laid to rest in Goldendale, Wash., July 24, 2007. He was killed July 18 when a 20-year-old driver passed in a no passing zone on U.S. 97, 20 miles south of Toppenish, Wash., and collided head-on with Garland's car. The other driver and two pasengers suffered minor injuries. Hundreds of city, county, state and federal officers attended Garland's funeral.

Zowie Zachery of Goldendale, Wash., peers through the 24.5-inch telescope at the Goldendale Observatory during the 2007 Blue Moon Festival. This is the largest public telescope,a nd the only one one by a state parks department. At left is Washington State Parks Volunteer Lesli Hampton, holding Zowie. They are looking at Venus, 60 million miles away.
