I've had my 5D3 for just shy of 6 months now. In that time, I've pretty much ignored the HDR feature that's built into the camera. I decided to give it a whirl while out at a local nature preserve, and I must say--- impressive! Taken using the "Art Vivid" HDR setting (+/- 1EV). Tweaks made in LR & PS.

My first time visiting the actual Niagara Falls since I moved out of the city, last year. Definitely picked a good time to visit, as I Was able to catch the giant ice/snow buildup at its base.

Again with the self portraiture.

I really like this photo, because it conveys the look I was going for (black on black, noted highlights, fast fall-off, etc). However, there are some things I'll do differently for next time. For starters, I used two strobes, along with two grids (1/4" for main, 1/8" for rim). While I have no complaints with the rim, I feel the main gridded light was a bit too restrictive. Next time around, I'll use an umbrella/Apollo Orb for my main, and see if I get a rounder/wrapped around light.

Still, I really like this shot.

More water droplet photography. This time, I gave my flash the "Arnold Palmer" treatment by using two gels. There was a bit of overlap in the center between the two gels, and I think it's represented nicely in the photo. If you focus on the "background," you'll notice how the color blends from purple, to fuchsia, to the red color.

One thing I noticed about these birds is their zen-like ability to maintain a statuesque pose for minutes on end, without even flinching! The spoonbill in the image above held this position for nearly 10 minutes!

Last Saturday, I provided photo/video coverage for the AAUW (American Association of University Women) Tech Savvy Conference at UB (my Alma Mater!).

While running between Clemens and the Student Union, I happened upon the above UB Police cruiser, situated in front of Baldy Hall. There was absolutely nothing else nearby--no people, just a soft snowfall. I snapped several shots before anyone took notice.

In regards to the processing, I took an inspirational page from the Max Payne video games. For the first two games in the series, the cutscenes were done in a contrasty, graphic-novel style. I figured replicating that would best suit this image.
