This is a photo of my cross country team while we were at cross country camp. I chose it as my representation of family because we all spend so much time together. From practices and races to pasta dinners and team over nights, we become a family.

brightness amoungst sadness

This is my example of symbolism for the Memory Keeper's Daughter. The rose was kept in color as a symbol of Phoebe - her bright, vibrant personality shines amoungst the sadness and pity that surrounds her. Like the subjects in the background are doing, Phoebe seems to be ignored by a lot of the world because of her mental illness.

This is a self portrait of me and it represents who I am really well. It was taken at the School of the Americas protest, where we represented those who had been killed by graduates of the SOA through a peaceful protest.

No Sweat

These are my cross country spikes. They are representative of me because I love to run, and also in the swoosh of the nike sign, I've written "no sweat." I wrote this because I had to buy spikes by nike otherwise, i'd get injured, but I do not support nike or the way they treat their workers. "no sweat" is a logo for a fair trade company that I borrowed to put on my spikes.I also think its sort of a paradox that on my xc spikes I've written "no sweat." not to be taken literally, of course!

The common theme here is obviously the color red. I used a lot of objects from around my house and limited myself to choosing subjects that were within a block of my house.

This is a picture of my grade school and the connecting parish to which I belong. I chose this as a place where I feel at home because through all of the times I have moved, it is one thing that has remained constant and one place where I truly feel at home.

I took this picture in my back yard and I liked it because of the way your eye follows the V shape of the tree trunks.The lines photographed are physical, and I was able find converging lines. Retouched in photoshop, I used the conte crayon filter and the grain filter for the bottom two photos. The conte crayon filter desaturates the photo and enhances the brightness and contrast which gives the photo a bit of an antique look. The grain filter adds a lot of texture to the picture and also darkens the colors just a bit.

These are photos of skateboarders taken at Lakewood Park. Retouched in Photoshop, I used the dodge and burn tools along with hue/saturation (only on the photo on the bottom right). I also used a lot of Brightness/Contrast to enhance the subjects of my photos.
