with a 3 run homer by Blanks, the padres pulled away in the eighth inning to ultimately win it. not that it mattered to this kid. he seemed to be cheering on both teams.

stone brewery's vertical epic series

i've been waiting years for this. since 2001, stone brewery has released 1 beer each year of its "vertical epic" series. the intent was for everyone to cellar these beers until the final release of the series on December 12, 2012 and then enjoy them altogether.

my collecting goes back to 2009. with friends we were able to get 'em back to the 2005 release.

Going in, I'd heard and read various opinions that it's the best in the county. The boy ended up having a decent romp through a pretty vast patch of pumpkins.

When the pumpkins get old, they have typical vendor booths dealing in carnival foods, hand made jewelry and everything in between. And off to the side, the farm's animals are accessible to the kids for petting and feeding.

Still a bit early to be sure, but I think we may be done with those temporary pumpkin patch lots. I'd be happy to make this destination a part of the family's October traditions.

we really lucked out with the camp reservations. the sites are typically fully booked 4 to 5 months in advance. you can imagine our surprise 3 months ago when we managed to book a weekend right after a new moon.

despite some concerns we decided to bring the boy along for his first camping trip.

we were in town celebrating a friend's birthday in the evening and opted for a detour before dinner. he's walking through an outdoor installation entitled Penetrable by Jesús Rafael Soto at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

the boy and wife did an extended stay in the bay area with the in laws for the chinese new year holiday. i was flying back and forth to san diego to be with them on weekends.
