I'm actually really happy with how this turned out. I had this idea in my head and little costume to do it and I have to say I think I pulled the idea of history off quite well!
Bravo, me!

Life has been extremely interesting lately in a whirlwind sort of way.

The babyface and I were living out of suitcases for a month or so, part of it by choice, the other for unforeseen circumstances, so we didn't really feel settled at all, which was unsettling for homebodies like us.

I think we're just now getting back into a groove that's allowing us to look ahead and plan for our future and ensure that the next few steps we take are done so wisely.

Now if we could just leave this tornado business behind and have our whole apartment back, we'd be able to live with some semblance of comfort.

EDIT: Also, we've decided to reserve Seafoam Creative for another endeavour, so my account, while the link is "seafoam_creative," my identity will be as Craig Johnston.

I actually took this one a week or so ago, back when I took this one and had been saving it til I caught up to it's place in the series.

I really like how this one turned out. It has a kind of field of dreams vibe to it, save for the fact that I'm in some weeds and not corn. I just like how it actually has a dreamy effect to it with the tones and the lens flare and all.

To those of you who leave the comments you do and express your favouritism towards my work, and even to the ones who just simply stop by, thank you so incredibly much.

That being said, sometimes I wish I received more attention than I do on here, despite the fact that I don't give many of you much. Actually, I feel like I should receive more attention, which actually feels nice because it means I'm building confidence in my work and I appreciate it enough to believe I'm actually offering something to the world of photography that's worth commenting on.

Other times I wish I didn't care so much, because no matter how much attention I get, it's what I think that truly matters. I should be doing this for me and accepting that all of your love is just icing on the proverbial cake.

I've always fallen into the whole "you are your own worst critic" category, anyways, since regardless of who compliments my work, it never helps me feel better about what I do.

I'm a perfectionist, I suppose. Always feeling like I could do better.

Only issue is that I lack the motivation to put the effort into actually becoming better.

Photography seems to be helping me in that area though. Sure I have my lapses where I don't take many photos for a while, but I think those breaks are necessary for my own personal progression.

I don't want to get burnt out or force myself to try to take better shots when I'm feeling particularly down on my work.

I find it easier to step away and come back to it feeling refreshed and feeling like my eyes are a little wider and more accepting of the positive aspects of my work instead of focusing on the negative.

I do think I need to have someone else edit my photos for clients though. My own personal stuff is one thing, as there is no deadline and I can take time and come back to it later. Coming back to it isn't possible when people are giving you money and expecting results sooner rather than later.

All of this being said, I think one thing that is missing from my work, and thus, allows me to understand why more people aren't drawn to my work, is emotion. When I shoot, I don't shoot for mood. When I shoot, my own mood is fairly neutral, and I think that shows in my work and what is keeping my work from going from good to captivating.

I don't paint a portrait that allows the viewer to feel anything and I think it's because when I shoot, I don't feel anything and I think my lack of emotion is due to placing so much emphasis on the shot looking good and none on it feeling good.

So to those of you who have read through this, where does the emotion come from in your shots? Do you draw it from somewhere or is it more along the lines of already feeling it before you start shooting and it simply coming across in your work?

I would assume it's the latter.

In which case, I just need to start feeling more.

24/52: Disaster.

.Craig Johnston. posted a photo:

Number 24 of 52 over here that I am incredibly far behind in.

The idea of disaster has become, in recent time, a fairly relative term, as it can range from something as small as a bad hair day or a broken fingernail to something as grandoise as the earthquakes in Haiti and Japan or the flooding going on in the U.S. right now.

The latter cases are ultimately closer to the real definition of a disaster as they are a sudden occurrence on a more massive scale that "cause a great loss of life, damage, or hardship."

What you see above may not appear to be a disaster by those terms, but the beautiful thing about the image is that you can take it upon yourself to imagine the situation at hand and furthermore, the repercussions of what has happened to this man.

What is outside the frame? What is just beyond the gnarled vines and brush? Why is this man tangled within?

Let it run wild, my friends.
