Presidential Inauguration 2013

Washington, DC

I was not able to make the jourey to Washington DC for President Obama's first-term Inauguration. It was indeed momentous occasion, and as I watched the 2009 Presidential Inauguration with my colleagues and the children at school, I felt a deep regret that, as an African American, I was not present for our country's first African American President. I made a vow that I would not miss Mr. Obama's second Presidential Inauguration, if he were re-elected. As it turns out, President Obama was, in fact, re-elected and the incredible coincidence about the 2013 Inauguration was that the parade and celebrations would take place on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day! There was no way I was going to miss this opportunity...

Inauguration weekend in Washington, DC was more wonderful than I could have ever imagined. We met many great people from all over the globe and of many religious, ethnic, racial, economic and political backgrounds. There was a joyous celebratory energy in the air, and despite the frigid temperature on January 21st, I felt an indescribable warmth in my mind, heart, and soul... As we watched the Inaugural Parade, the late afternoon sky slowly and beautifully transformed from a crisp blue hue to a brilliant orange evening glow... Clouds began to roll in, creating magnifcent textures and more vibrant colors than I've ever seen...
