The only sharp shot I got, very windy... 5 second exposure at 320mm.

Last week I showed a group of photographers on Skye how to process an image like this using a selective layering technique in Photoshop. The image I used was so unsharp I discarded it immediately afterwards. This image was processed quite differently, just a wee tweak here and there with levels & curves in Photoshop. Thanks for listening to me last week guys, hope it wasn't all wasted...

This was my first time to Elgol, it is a fantastic place to visit and photograph.

I was shooting with Anne Strickland so we kind of did a trip of the Skye hot spots, not what I would normaly do but it was fun when the light was good.

Cheers Anne, very enjoyable trip. It was nice to meet you and hope to see you again sometime.

Warm sunshine at the Hermitage Dunkeld, a bit of a rarity these days.

It's been a tad breezy this autumn and most of the colourful leaves are down already !

It was very nice to bump into and meet here this morning for the first time long time flickr contact David Mould . I still find it a little bit strange when flickr world reaches out into my real world.

I set out from home to get a shot like this. When I got here about two hours before this the sky turned clear blue and cloudless, so I turn around and drove inland for about ten miles. At the last minute I spotted this rain storm in the rear view mirror and raced back down the road, I got out here again just in time.

No HDR, this is three exposures manualy blended in photoshop.

From earlier in the year. Recently the weather here in bonny Scotland has been particularly crap. Hopefully over the next few days I will remedy the lack of new work with some full moon activity.

This is a vertorama, two single exposures blended/stiched in photoshop, no HDR.

After a day of stormy weather both the sky and light were amazing for around 40mins or so. Because of the salt and spray in the air this is about the only shot I got in the whole time. It was so bad I ran out of lens cleaner.

When I post a picture like this I inevitably get a few comments and emails about my obvious glaring mistakes in how I took the shot and my choice of processing.

For the photo police on flikcr, two definitions, one for a mechanical device called a camera, it's used for taking pictures the other definition is for photography.

Camera.

The camera is a device that records images. These images may be still photographs or moving images such as videos or movies. The term camera comes from the camera obscura (Latin for "dark chamber"), an early mechanism for projecting images. The modern camera evolved from the camera obscura.

Photography.

Photography is the process, activity and art of creating still or moving pictures by recording radiation on a non-sensitive medium, such as a photographic film, or an electronic sensor. Light patterns reflected or emitted from objects activate a sensitive chemical or electronic sensor during a timed exposure, usually through a photographic lens in a device known as a camera that also stores the resulting information chemically or electronically. Photography has many uses for business, science, art, and pleasure.
Photographers control the camera and lens to "expose" the light recording material (such as film) to the required amount of light to form a "latent image" (on film) or "raw file" (in digital cameras) which, after appropriate processing, is converted to a usable image. Digital cameras use an electronic image sensor based on light-sensitive electronics such as charge-coupled device (CCD) or complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology. The resulting digital image is stored electronically, but can be reproduced on paper or film.

I repeat... I have no interest in capturing reality when I point my camera in the direction I choose and open the shutter for the period of time I think is appropriate. I am interested in photography “the art of creating a picture”.

I posted a HDR version of this swan and sunset ages ago. I was never happy with the fuzziness which is a by-product of HDRing. At the time I always intended to go back and process it in a different way when I developed the skills. So here it is, taken earlier in the evening with the swan facing the other way, brighter, better and sharper than my original post, wish I'd had the 5D then...
