Seems I'm into a chair thing lately....and mostly with one chair in particular. Thankfully I have yet to start booking the chair and I on flights looking for exotic places to shoot!

2012-171 - Curiosity Epitomized - a tiny Platycryptus undatus male, jumping spider is, like most jumping spiders, one of the most curious creatures around. They seem to be interested in everything and afraid of very little. You can even get them to jump back and forth between your hands if you want to. It's always difficult getting a photograph of almost any jumping spider that's continually attempting to jump at the lens.

Another shot of the "Bald Faced Hornet" from this morning. Whoever named this rather large hornet obviously didn't look close enough. When viewed at full resolution (sorry, not available here) even the hairs have hairs of their own!

All cleaned up and ready to party, this small Katydid continued towards both me and the camera. I don't know if he could see another Katydid in the reflection of my lens or was just looking for a convenient vertical surface to climb, even though they can fly.

This is one (relatively) large green gnat. Exactly which species isn't clear but there is a distinct possibility that it's a blood worm.

2012-202 - Katy's Back! The katydids have returned and shown their faces for the first time this year. I've been hearing their clicking for a couple of nights but hadn't seen any of them until last night when 2 of them appeared.

OOOOPS... How embarrassing. Though I think the 'bubble' is intentional and part of the stink bug's defense mechanism, It still raises a question or two! ;-) This gives a whole new meaning to 'Bubble Butt"!

Do I Look Better In Profile? One very tiny moth with an unusual stance. Most moths either wrap themselves in the wings or lay out flat. Very few of them seem to perch with their wings up like a butterfly.

A young grasshopper gives me the evil eye thinking that it couldn't be seen. Maybe they're completely colour blind and don't realize that yellow on green is a trifle obvious!

2012-169 - How I Spent Father's Day - Crawling around a hot attic space, crawling through insulation, banging my head on exposed roofing nails in an 8" space while replacing a bathroom ceiling fan... Ah, the life of rest, relaxation, and respect. Nothing like it! ;-)

2012-168 - Spring-Loaded Greenery. There were a lot of newly emerged green leafhoppers (it's too early to tell exactly which species yet) last night. Just barely out of the nymph stage, they're still getting used to having wings and the ability to fly IF their hind legs won't launch them to where ever they want to be.

2012-161 - Antennae Adjustments - I was finally able to capture this little long horned beetle with its antennae in one place and not constantly in motion. I have yet to identify the exact species of this little guy.

2012-160 - Scourge Of The Waterfront - Though they may be referred to as Fishflies or Mayflies, they usually appear in early June and make a real mess when they die off en masse within a few days of hatching and leave a greasy, slippery mess on every walkway. Fortunately I live a couple of km from the waterfront and other than a few of them appearing at my porch light, they aren't a big problem here.
