This was expertly carved into a set of small steps leading out of one of the vehicles at Salvation Mountain.

Salvation Mountain is an art installation covering a hill north of Calipatria, California, near Slab City and just several miles from the Salton Sea. This is an amazing place. Just northeast of the tiny city Niland at the northeast corner of the Salton Sea in the middle-of-nowhere California.

It was created by one man, Leonard Knight, and you can read more about him and his incredible creation here.

This is an interior view of the eastern side of the installation. It is about twenty feet high and, as you can see, immensely colorful. This area reminds me of a cathederal designed by Dr. Suess.

This is photographer (and engineer, multimedia designer, artist, tour guide, mountain expert, and Michelle-friend) Jen Fraser stopping to capture the moving water amidst the burgeoning autumn foliage. She was our guide to a great hike near Mt. Pisgah for the sunrise. The morning was amazing, as was my entire visit to North Carolina.

I just love this image. The Amazing Emma Thomas Wooley! How legit is her pose and the lighting on this. Wow. I am so proud of her and this image. This was shot at the same abandoned building across the street from French Broad Chocolate Factory in Asheville.

My other niece, Anna Grace Thomas Wooley. These images were taken just outside of a crack house but the tall grasses were just so beautiful, we had to shoot there.

I was visiting the whole family in Asheville, North Carolina and the trip was a mental and spiritual retreat for me. I feel so alive for the time spent there with friends and kids and homework and the beauty of Autumn in the Appalachians.
