'Sunglasses, Time-Travel, & Iced-Tea

Gamma-Ray Productions posted a photo:

I haven’t uploaded anything in a long time, so here’s my Movie Poster assignment.

I’ve been doing fake or made-up movie posters for a long time now, and I’ve been excited to do this since my second semester in the program; this is the result. It was finished and handed in today.

It’s a ‘movie’ based on a short story I'd written last May. The working title had been 'A Series of Unusual Events,' which was all uploaded as notes onto Facebook. After doing that I'd expanded and changed a few things to make it into a longer, potentially publishable story called Sunglasses, Time-Travel, & Iced-Tea.

Pictured are (at the top) the High Society of Iced-Tea Drinkers: Benny (Benny Li), Tim (Tim Hack), Martin (Marcin Jakobik) & Dean (Stephen Sedgewick-Williams). The main group of characters include Brian (Brian Nelson), Leonard (Logan Allmendinger), Jason (myself), and John (Arthur Nwachukwu).

It was awesome to finally do this, I’d long decided to create my own movie poster based on that story for awhile, and it is 99% close to my original visualization - which is rare when you put a vision to practical result.

New Shows This Fall

Gamma-Ray Productions posted a photo:

House of Campbell

I really like those TV or movie posters that showcase television shows or movies about families, or ensemble casts. Posters like Arrested Development, The Royal Tenenbaums, or other shows about families, dysfunctional or not, like Married...With Children or The Waltons, whatever, feature the entire cast of the family in a group on the poster or DVD series, etc.

Inspired by those images, I wanted to do one myself featuring my own (maternal) family. To get the result I hoped for, I asked everyone to assume the expression that best suits their personality...most DVD covers of casts, particularly The Royal Tenenbaums, have the characters expressing emotions in their faces based on the general quality of their lives. I will say that that cast, in that poster, looks pretty non-comital or even pissed off.

The 'cast' of this poster really conveys my hopeful result - that this looks like a family full of unusual quirks and odds. I wanted something similar to Arrested Development...everyone sort of looks slightly disinterested in having their photo taken, their expressions augmenting the unwelcome absurdity coming along in this comedy.

The photo itself was taken on my grandfather's 76th birthday celebration on Saturday, and several other (lighter, happier) photos were taken. I used the best expressions in this photo to turn it into the taster poster of comedy about a slightly dysfunctional family coming later this September on NBC.
Something you might find in the late August/early September issues of entertainment magazines...

Clock Tower by Years

Every group portrait of myself & cousins or relatives since I was 17 under the clocktower at the Lonestar Cafe (Fisher & Baseline).

Since I was 16, on my birthday, it's become a tradition to have a lunch at this place on or near my birthday. When I was 17 my grandpa invited two of my cousins, Jeremy and Jamie, and took a photo of us under the clock tower. The photo has since been taken every year, up to today (my 20th birthday was yesterday).

Jeremy has almost always attempted to give me bunny ears and almost wears the same shirt in each photo as well.
The clock tower never changes either. But I do age from 17 to 20. I believe every photo from this thing except the most recent one is here on Flickr somewhere in some way...

Friends over the years

Gamma-Ray Productions posted a photo:

Meaning to do this since Monday when I saw it, this is my sort of response to what I feel is a mocking photograph I found on someone else's stream. If they're going to emphasize about being 'friends forever' to other great people, kind of taunting me in the process, then I'm only going to try to do the same. I hope it doesn't degrade into a silly fight though.

Unfortunately this comes across much more as a kind of reflection, and I forgot to put Fred and Jahdel in there, making Duncan (south, left corner) and those teachers (south centre) my only current friends in this photo compilation. Every other one I either lost because of something I did inadvertently, or they moved away or something. In effect some add up to being shallow, unforgiving people who don't know how to be accepting of other people's differences/troubles. Excepting the ones who moved away and the few who do actually call me a friend, best friend or common.

Because they aren't in there, I'll write about them here:

Fred I knew as an acquaintance in middle school through Myles M., then we became common friends in grade 11 photography class in March 2009. We really got along well, became best friends, and I saw him as often as I could (none of those other friends in there I actually do see). Unfortunately he ended it with the delusion that I was threatening him (which I actually wasn't, it was a delusion).

Jahdel was an old friend four years younger than me who moved across the courtyard when I was eight years old. We got along great although we could be argumentative. Nowadays, after both of us moving to Barrhaven (him first, then me a year later), we have gradually grown apart. The last thing we did was go swimming at the Sportplex last summer, and before that it was the same thing four years prior to that. We barely ever see each other anymore. He's got his own life and friends. I'm too old, four years his senior.

Friends over the years

Family visit to the cabin near Wakefield, Quebec, late 1990s.
Left to Right: James Brunton, Al MacDonald, myself at age 6, Nancy Bissett (my aunt), Cameron Bissett (infant in seat, cousin) David Bissett (uncle) Lisa Bissett (cousin), Mich, Robert Bissett (my smiling father).
After finding it, I'm not sure if I've ever seen this before now. Al, James and Mich are family friends.
If my cousin Cameron is the baby in this shot then it's obviously late summer 1997. And my hair bangs have been cut by myself, another giveaway.

Inspired by the cover of Entertainment Weekly I set out to do my own version with all my friends on Facebook. Thankfully I only have 57 of them in this case, and only properly know 53.
The poster, a holiday themed one, took from midnight last night to 4am this morning to finish. It was a huge effort and well worth it; just about everyone in that collage on Facebook (where I uploaded the proper poster) loves it and gave me glowing feedback.

Original Gamma-Ray Productions

Gamma-Ray Productions posted a photo:

This is where my Flickr name comes from.

As I've explained in other photos dealing with this banner, it was a sort of an umbrella name that all the artwork, primarily paintings and drawings, etc., carried out by my father and his friends would be put under.

The people in this photo would be, left to right, Al Macdonald, James Brunton, and my father himself, Robert Bissett. They're posing in front of the gallery, 494 1/2 Somerset Street West, in which they showcased both their paintings and others by local artists. They had a few exhibitions as well. I was a child when my dad started managing the gallery with James and it lasted a few years, until probably around 2004. I'm sorry I don't know the date of this photo.

Two of the people in the photo, Al and James, moved off to Calgary since and I haven't seen either of them at all since (except for James a few times during the last few winters). It was a fun little project, the gallery.

I have a photo of what it looks like as of this summer here.

The reason I have this photo at all is for the new gallery - I have started, largely for my father, a new blog that will be based on all the stuff he's done as well as others. It's the new incarnation - the electronic version - and I'm tasked with taking photos of old and new paintings, scanning photographs like these, and eventually transferring even old videos that apparently exist and were made before I was born. I took 38 photos of paintings today, all from my father.

In essence, I'm transferring all the artwork and media into electronic form.

I put this here because I thought it would be interesting to have a photo and historical origin of what that name is and what it's based on. It wasn't black and white when I scanned it - I just made it that way to make it look more historic. Anyway...

Anyway...

Taking this started a sort of tradition where we'd take a photo on this weir that manages the water levels in between the two lakes. We'd do it in 2008 (though with only four people myself included).

This result is better than the first picture taken because of the color and the way it captures everyone a lot better. People also look better too.
Unfortunately Nelson had to turn around. My father got quite angry at him for that.

This is really old; about 2:27pm, March 3, 2009.

It was taken out of one of the windows of the bus, when I took route 675, just after school had got out. I'd been taking photos of Tyler and his friend Mackenzie standing outside the bus, and I kept taking them as they walked toward and onto the bus as well.

Unfortunately this one didn't work out and instead focussed on other people talking, waiting, and just being around in the vicinity of where the bus sat. If Tyler hadn't been in the photo it would have probably looked like a nice random shot of activity post-bell. Oh well.

Besides, I'd get to know other people who turned out to be in the image as well anyway, so it's not such a bad result after all.

For over twenty years on Christmas Day, my father, uncles, many friends, and (nowadays) some of my cousins play street hockey in the back parking lot of a church on Greenbank Road. This would be the twenty third (?) yearly photo.

Instead of pointing out all the names of which most I really don't know, I'll just say that I'm on the right in the black coat, my father behind me, our good friend Ian in the red checkered fleece beside us, then the rest is friends, cousins and uncles.

I don't remember who they were, only that they knew I took photos and had close ties with important people. Which could mean that their picture would be showcased on a big billboard or something.

It never was...Mr. Joel Graham took my photos of the trip and never did anything with them. Something I've been annoyed about for a long time. At least putting them on here is something.
