taking pics of a cute baby and her Mum!!!

Bathtime is always a great time of discovery for babies
and tends to be a challenge in NOT getting your camera gear wet when they splash
but well worth the effort

On our weekend away, we discovered a part of the country where there is actual ice and frost in the mornings!
To our delight, (shivering as it may have been) walking in a winter wonderland, we discovered the tentative beginnings of spring, just thawing out with the morning sun.

It is those rare moments you happen to catch the photographer in front of the lens instead of behind it,
in this case we have both... lol

This was a fun shoot, however, it was damp chilly and I had a cold, so staying still for nearly a minute was the real feat! lol

Had an interesting weekend, did some shopping and got a txt from Mel who invited us to hang out for star trails and sunrise... why not we said... so we took off at 11 pm with no sleep, and did an all nighter, getting home at about 11 am Sunday

the sunrise was not the most spectacular, but there was this nice bit of color and cool reflections that really just made this so serene!

Sky Rock

Loved how the fingers of clouds seemed to radiate from the rock on the top or the near mountain I climbed over the long weekend.
It was quite a hard climb, not that I have not done harder, but the angle of accent near the top was definitely a test of my courage, balance and resolve.
Funny though, all the way I thought I may not make it, but the moment Rich says to me, oh I think you may not be able to get this next bit, I was all how dare someone tell me I can't do it, and with renewed strength and resolve, I did make it!
Glad I did, sitting at the top looking over the vast valley and being on the same level as the clouds was a thrilling experience!

After a week of work, stress, commercial photo shoots and deadlines, this weekend was spent at the beach house to de-stress and do.. well nothing really

I had in mind to play a bit with some shells from the house, and set up some whimsicle compositions just for fun

this is 3 of 37 or so shots

it was fun though, laying flat on the ground, sand sticking to me neck to feet, and quickly jumping up to save the camera with each approaching wave!

all in all
relaxing fun!

the best part though was when i looked at the histogram, that it was all nice and centered...perfect exposure!
yay me!

It is events such as this one that make photography a true adventure, and not one for the meek of heart....
This weekend Cyclone Ului was forcasted to make landfall up near Makay...between 1am and 4am Sunday morning.
Saturday morning, Morayfield, we sat and deliberated whether it was worth it to drive 7 hours to go and sleep in a ute on a beach near where it was to arrive....yea it was definitely worth it!
We started out for a long drive, around noon and arrived in Yeppoon that evening, the wind was already up and the surf was pounding the shores of Rosslyn Bay Harbour.
When Rich got out of the ute to check out the surroundings, he was buffeted by winds that were nearly 150 kph! He said it was a hot wind and felt like being blown by a giant hairdryer!
We securred our gear, and found a reletively safe place to park where we could see the beach, the trees and the road....(the road just in case we needed a fast get away from any water that may try to come over the 5 foot embankment)
and then we tried to sleep...
yea right
how does one sleep when every 2 mins the truck is hit with a wind that feels like you are being broad sided by another vehicle?!?!
we ended up moving the truck so that it was angled into the wind and not being hit full on the side.
The other thing that kept you from sleeping was the sudden torrential bouts of rain that pelted the car with what sounded like a high pressure hose in a car wash....
All this with the facinating view of trees being bowed in half by the winds, as they danced around you in a frenzy!
Did we sleep.... um not quite

We got some sleep, but were up at 5 to catch what we hoped was a bit of dawn's light.
And were rewarded with more wind, no rain, and spectacular clouds.
I don't think we have ever seen clouds move so fast.
For this shot I had to have a high shutter speed to stop the motion, and still there is just a bit of blur!

So this is just one of a few shots from our extreme weather weekend of photography
