Peregrine Launch

Sharpeyesonline posted a photo:

For those of you who have followed my photostream, you have seen "Stretch" before. He was a wild migratory "tundra" Peregrine Falcon that I studied and documented for 3 years. I was on the beach 80' below when I captured this shot of him launching from the cliff top. Stretch passed away February 2007. This image is posted as shot, except for using Noiseware to selectively eliminate Noise from the sky. This was shot with my 1st digital camera, a Nikon D70 with a Nikkor AF 80-400mm f5.6 lens. "Stretch" is just how you see him, in his prime as a "tiercel" and magnificent Peregrine Falcon. Explored 257 April 18 www.sharpeyesonline.com

Wild Female Peregrine Falcon whom I call "Nancy" (her mate is "Sid"), launching form the beach after grabbing a drink from a stream of water that flows out from a nearby canyon across the sand. Peregrine Falcons get the majority of their water from the prey they catch and eat. Over the years I have captured Nancy in this same beach stream, while she was bathing. www.sharpeyesonline.com

Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus anatum). Her name is Xena. She is well known these days here in coastal San Diego. On this afternoon I found her perched low on the bluff just above the beach. She was very curious about a small rattlesnack moving around below her. She kept cominig flying down from her perch, taking swipes at the snake. Right after I caputured this image of her launching my camara's shutter mechanism quit.

Wild teircel Peregrine Falcon (Falcon peregrinus tundrius) launching from bluff top above the Pacific Ocean at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve. I tracked, monitored and photo documented "Stretch's" (the name I gave him) behavior for the 3 years. He would migrate to the bluffs here at Torrey Pines State Park in Southern California, from his northern habitat in October. He would then depart this area in late March and fly to his home habitat in the northern latitudes. While he was here, I would get in sync with his movements. He tolerated my presence and allowed me to capture hundreds of images him. Stretch passed away in 2007. I miss his presence. He was a magnificent Peregrine Falcon. www.sharpeyesonline.com
