This is the old river Irwell down by the irlam firestation. It is not a flowing river anymore as they used the straighter sections for the building of the ship canal. The larger meandering routes were cut off into what are called in nature when this happens as oxbow lakes.

Seen this in piccadilly square near the bus station. The contrast of the pidgeons in the steel tree appealed.

My eldest son here was pushing for some shots for his facebook proile. Took a few but i like this one. Not sure whether i prefer the edit or the colour. Metered the light from the window on left, using minolta lightmeter. Far better than any camera's metering.

Apparently there is a strong tradition of worship and prayer in the area, and Preston Patrick (‘Preston’ meaning ‘priest town’) is thought to derive its name from a house of Premonstratensian Canons founded by Thomas de Workington in 1190. Between 1485 and 1509 a new chapel was erected on the present site and the Quaker George Fox is known to have preached there in 1652. The ‘new’ church was consecrated in 1853 under the name of ‘St Patrick’, and a chancel, the gift of Miss Keightley, was added in 1892. The East Window in the church illustrates the ‘Te Deum’ showing that the church in heaven joins in worship with the church on earth. The windows were made by Shrigley and Hunt of Lancaster, and the choir stalls, lectern and pulpit are made of carved oak. The altar rails were a work of love offered by the village blacksmith, Mr T Wright of Endmoor. The pulpit is a special gift in memory of William Wakefield, and the organ a gift of parishioners and friends, was made by Wilkinson of Kendal.
Once was attached to St Gregory, the well to the back off the church was called Gregory's well.

After numerous messages about the hands photo and the fact nobody gets to see what the lady looks like then here she is.
Did a photoshoot for some students at a local college. Thought it was going to be difficult as they were all teenage and lively , plus being strangers to me sometimes does not work in your favour with large groups. I was surprised to find working with them was so enlightening, they had good idea of what was needed and what they preferred.
Hand held lightmeter reading taken from studio light off left. This gives a reading off the light actually hitting your subject not what is reflected. Superb with the Fuji S5 which can capture a broader section of data than any other DSLR on the market. Detail is kept throughout highlights and shadows.

Took these shots in a place ive been too before, As the older art decays then newer art is put on over the top. While we were here there were some foreign artists painting the walls grey to start their own work.
