Hey flickr... it's been a looong time. Figured I'd drop back in, take a look around, see what's been up, make some small talk.

I recently spent some time in Hawaii with Miles and my friends Bruce Omori and Tom Kualii from Extreme Exposure Gallery. Lot's of eating, lots of banter, lots of close personal moments talking about feelings, and a little bit of photography.

Ok, lots of shooting was done... I'm the only one who talked about feelings. Here's one of the shots, it makes me feel things. I won't talk about them.

The lava really is incredible to shoot. Difficult, but incredible. This was easily the most challenging trip I've ever taken and the most challenging subject matter I have pointed a camera at. But, man... SO much fun.

Check it out large for better accuracy of detail and all that. Or don't... whatever.

Decided to reprocess this one from a couple years back. Good old Mount Hood from a meadow just outside of Government Camp, Oregon.

Lots of luminosity masks for targeted contrast adjustments, lots of dodging/burning. Lots of work painting in different levels of texture adjustments. Color work was primarily done in ACR.

Nothing ground breaking here, but this is my take on an iconic spot long the Oregon coast.

Processing consisted of triple processing a raw file for detail, color, and exposure... then blending them together. Some dodging and burning, localized color work, texture adjustments, luminosity masks for targeted brightness and contrast adjustments, etc, etc. Just ask if you want more details. I'm always happy to discuss.

Been a while, guys. My bad. As a peace offering, here is an image I shot this past summer while spending a few days on Mount Rainier with my good friends Miles Morgan and Bruce Omori.

It was a lackluster year for flowers, so I opted to get low and close on this small grouping. I did quit a bit of dodging of the flowers (and elsewhere) to get them to pop in the fg. There were also considerable adjustments made to texture.

Anyways, hope you guys like this one. It's one of my favorites in a while.

Another shot from Mount Saint Helens from earlier this year. Miles, Steve, Mike, and I headed up there for a couple days of shooting this past summer and were super pumped to wake up to this thunderstorm one morning. The weather was ever-changing and super dramatic with all of the fog and lightning you see here. I think I fired off close to 8gb worth of images on this morning alone.

Bored of wildflower/mountain shots yet? Not me! In fact, I still have quite a few left to post from this summer. Eat me. :P

Nothing groundbreaking here, just some nice wildflowers around the Johnson Ridge area of Mount Saint Helens.

Processed from 4 exposures for range and motion blur, lots of dodging/burning through luminosity masks, some hand painted color/saturation work, softened up some of the contrast in the background for atmosphere, increased some of the texture up front, blah blah blah. The usual.

Got out a couple weeks back with my good friends Miles Morgan and Bruce Omori to spend some time on Mount Rainier. It really was a blast getting out for a little backpacking again getting a little decent light here and there. Either way, it was just a blast to hang out with some friends.

Grand Park was, well, grand... Except for 2nd worst population of mosquitos I've ever seen, and the less than impressive display of wildflowers. It really is a rad view of the mountain though. This is the best I could come up with.

Hope you all dig it. Enjoy your weekend and go be patriotic... just don't waive your rights with your flags.

Another shot from my trip to Glacier a couple weeks ago. Not sure why, but I feel like this one isn't up to par. I'll most likely reprocess it soon.

The Glacier Lillies were out in full force, but they are tiny little guys and hard to shoot. I was on the ground for this, so I had to blend a few shots for depth of field issues. Also blended for dynamic range.

Back from a GREAT trip to Glacier NP with my homies Kirby Davis and Rob Macklin. Had some great weather and light. Also ran into the homie Alex Mody and finally got to meet Joe Rossbach... both are great dudes and killer photogs.

Anyways, I have a few images to share. I guess I'll start with this one. The spot might look familiar, as I shot one of my more popular images from this same area. Unfortunately the creek I had planned on shooting turned out to be completely dried up. So in a downpour of rain and lightning strikes, I had to make a last minute compositional decision... this was the best I could come up with on short notice.

Blend of 5 images for dynamic range, depth of field, and freezing the wind-blown foreground. A bunch of luminosity masks for the blend work and dodge/burn work, saturation masks and hand painted saturation to even things out color wise, texture adjustments, etc etc. Hope you guys like it!

What's happenin yall?

So I haven't been shooting much this summer (that's actually changing next week), but I did get the chance to hit Mt St Helens a couple weeks ago to shoot and camp with some of my close friends. I can't remember the last time I had so fun. We ended up spending most of the night shooting the stars and laughing at each other, then awoke to a thunderstorm with some amazing lightning. That shot will come later.

Anyways, I'm leaving for Glacier in a couple days, so hopefully that will bring some new imagery... But mostly I'm just looking forward to being back in my fav place in the country.

This is a couple shots taken a couple hours apart from each other. I normally don't care much for night stuff, but I thoroughly enjoyed making this shot. There are a few blurry flowers, and I have since removed the shooting star in the top of the frame, but overall I kinda dig this one.

Oh, and the glow on the horizon is the city lights from the Portland area.

Alvord Desert Playa, Southeast Oregon.

I was busy taking ego-less(ego-full) self portraits of myself on this particular morning when I noticed a raven/crow (whatev) kept circling over me. So after a few attempts I managed to catch him in a frame. Then I took Mr. Nevermore from said frame and enlarged him and moved him a little more towards the middle. This is the resulting image.

This one doesn't work as well in a small web jpeg, but is pretty rad printed larger. Hope you guys dig it regardless. Ok, I'm super sick... going to watch Top Gear and rest. Peace yall.

I know, it's been a while. Sh_t happens. Here is a shot from the east side of Glacier Park, MT.

This is one from a couple years back while shooting with my great friend Steve "The Wonder in Black and White" Turner. We had some really killer light, blowing rain, a bear encounter, and lots of laughs while hanging out on this ridge.

Hope all of you dudes and dolls are doing well. Who wants to go backpacking with me this summer?

Another old shot. Again, nothing groundbreaking, but it's all my favorite elements combined in a photo.

All the snow we had (especially late into the season) should provide a late but bountiful wildflower bloom in the mountains this year. I'm stoked to get out and backpack some new-to-me areas. Warm sun, beautiful views, good friends, and mosquitoes to ruin it all. Stoked.

Balsamroot and sunrise light. Nothing groundbreaking, but in theme with the season.

I'm about halfway done with a processing video I'm making that will be available for download from my site. It will run through pretty much everything I do to put my images together in post. Hopefully some of you will find it interesting. I'll let you all know when it's finished. Until then, there is others things on my website... like pretty pictures and such. I wouldn't hate you for looking at them, in fact, it's encouraged.

Last summer, Miles and I headed out to spend the weekend backpacking in the Jefferson Wilderness. Well, we were a little early in the season and found out our destination was still covered in quite a bit of snow.

Being the lazy pricks we are, we decided to turn around and head to Sparks Lake for a more relaxing night in our tents on warm ground instead of slushy snow. The weather was clear the entire time, so we played around with some star shot and had a blast just shooting the shit and hanging out.

This is two exposures, one for sky/water and the other for the land areas. Hand blended in PS using a Wacom Tablet and fine tuned with a couple luminosity masks. Noise reduction was simple and easily cleaned up in ACR. Otherwise, just some dodging/burning and saturation adjustments.

A quick break from my norm of wildflowers and mountains. And no, don't go running out to this spot just yet... this one is from last year. It's not quite this green yet.

This is two exposures, one at iso320 and another at iso1000. The high iso/fast shutter image was blended into the low iso image to remove the motion blur in some of the foliage. Otherwise, there wasn't much work on this. Saturation masks, dodging/burning, localized white balance/luminosity adjustments, texture work, etc.

Washington's Tatoosh Range and abundant wildflower meadows under a sunrise sky.

Here's one without wind blown flowers. I blended an image taken at iso1600 with an image taken at iso200 to fix some of the blurry flowers. Otherwise, normal processing techniques were used that I type about all the time.

Hopefully this lupine shot will go over better than my last. Thanks everyone!

Here's one from last year that I didn't get around to processing until this month. The blooms in the hills of the Columbia River Gorge were less than remarkable last year, so I never cared to give this image much effort, but I worked through it and decided it was at least worth sharing.

Single image, triple processed for color and exposure. Blended by hand (a tablet is invaluable for this, and any masking IMO), some added color work painted in, dodging/burning, texture work, etc.

I'd be interested to hear what you guys think of this one. The blooms were bad and comps were hard to come by, so pardon the arrangement. Any feedback from you fine people?

Hidden Lake and Bearhat Mountain, Glacier National Park, MT

This is a vertical version of a shot I posted last summer. The light this night was bonkers. It went from pretty much dead clear, to this, in about an hour. It was a great night surrounded by great friends... the Turners and the Morgans. Can't wait to get back again this summer for a month or two.
