This morning, I looked out in the yard and my freeloader was snoozing in the shade of the evergreen next to the patio. I got a couple of shots through the window, then snuck outside for a few more. I missed him yawning, and stretching, but I got an ear-scratch & picking teeth.

This rabbit, which apparently came with my new house at no extra charge, is fairly tolerant. He refused to leave the yard even after I started the lawnmower. I was happy to get some actual movement from him, as opposed to those at my old house that just freeze when you're in the area..

I've been really busy with residential matters AND trying not to annoy this brood, especially since there've been some significantly cool weather patterns since the eggs were laid. Just to chronicle this hefty brood, I thought I'd take an opportunity when mom & dad were elsewhere to snap a shot or 3. Note: apparently ALL 5 eggs hatched and they're all thriving, if you can call 5 oversized chicks in a tiny cup of feathers thriving. Obviously, the parents have their wings (and beaks) full here..

Pay no attention to the cat in the foreground.. She is completely oblivious to the big ball of wrapping paper over there.. Nothing to fear from her. It's not like she's just waiting for the best moment to pounce or anything..

I've been trying (and failing) for some time to catch Smokey in repose to satisfy someone's curiosity. This is the closest I've gotten. Just consider before the camera's auto-exposure routines caught his attention, he was further on his back, his right hind-leg was pretty much straight up and his right front leg was about the elevation of the back one here. His head was more upside down, too, jowls flopping to the side. Good thing he has that 4' diameter pillow so he can lay against it on the floor. D'OH!
