Even the farming equipment in Iceland was colourful! At this farm they made Hákarl - a speciality made from rotting shark meat, the stench was unimaginable! I politely declined to try it.

A view of the wonderful organ in the Hallgrímskirkja in Reykjavik, Iceland. I was lucky enought to hear this instrument being played - even my goose pimples had goose pimples... The organ was made by the German organbuilder Johannes Klais of Bonn. It has mechanical action, four manuals, 102 ranks, 72 stops and 5275 pipes. It is 15 metres tall and weighs 25 tons.

This pretty young Korean lady was practicing for a concert on the magnificent organ in the Hallgrímskirkja, in Reykjavik, Iceland. It was a remarkable experience to hear this wonderful instrument being put through its paces. The organ was made by the German organbuilder Johannes Klais of Bonn. It has mechanical action, four manuals, 102 ranks, 72 stops and 5275 pipes. It is 15 metres tall and weighs 25 tons. Sadly the church is currently undergoing major restoration, and the great tower is covered in scaffolding and netting.

Taken on the road that goes up between the glaciers Langjökull and Hofsjökull. Iceland has space - and lots of it! Please listen to the young Icelandic artist Lay Low while you look at this lovely countryside. The music scene in Iceland is very lively and very varied.

This is a shot of the entrance to the futuristic hot water storage tanks on the hill Öskjuhlíð above Reykjavik in Iceland. The 5 tanks are both very practical and a great tourist attraction.

At the foot of Sólheimajökull

This bizarre scene was taken at the foot of the glacier Sólheimajökull. The pyramid-shaped cones are made of ice mixed with black volcanic ash. The glacier is a daughter of the Mýrdalsjökull glacier and is the source of the river Jökulsá á Sólheimasandi, which roughly and honestly translates as "the smelly river". This was perhaps the most weirdest scene I saw on my trip. It looked like something from "The Lord of the Rings", and you could really feel the cold winds and mists falling down the glacier into the river. It felt like being on another planet.

The name Skógafoss translates as wild waterfall. It is on the south coast of Iceland and is fed by the Eyjafjallajökull glacier. This lovely waterfall is some 25 meters wide and some 60 meters from top to bottom. Becuase of the spray, the whole area is covered with lush, green plants.

Seen on the Snæfellsjökull peninsula in Iceland. I thought that the very pretty piece Seoul by the Icelandic band Amiina would go nicely with this shot - I was fortunate enough to meet the young lady that plays the saw (!) while I was in Reykjavik.

Gullfoss waterfalls

A shot of the upper section of the beautiful Gullfoss waterfalls in Iceland. The wide Hvítá river flows down into a wide curved three-step "staircase" and then abruptly plunges in two stages (11 m and 21 m) into a crevice 32 m (105 ft) deep. The crevice, about 20 m (60 ft) wide, and 2.5 km in length, is at right angles to the flow of the river.

This is the waterfall Vatnsleysufoss (also called Faxi) on the river Tungufljót. Certainly not the largest waterfall that I saw, but one of the prettiest, and the image also gives you an idea of the huge empty areas that you can see in Iceland. The steps on the left are a salmon leap.
