Caught this Eagle Owl - Bubo Bubo - at the moment it took off from a roost during a Birds Of Prey display at Knowsley Safari Park, Merseyside. They really are a magnificent bird.

One from summer last year, this was certainly a very happy Honey Bee - Apis mellifera - as he wandered from flower to flower in a patch of Common Ragwort - Senecio jacobaea. Explored on April 17th #491. Be Happy :-)

A Black-Headed Gull - Larus Ridibundus - in flight and looking for food over Carr Mill Dam, St Helens. This is one of the smaller species in the Gull family and has the distinction of being the most numerous small gull in the UK. It is just as happy scavenging for food in towns and on farmland as it is near the coast.

Caught these two Canada Geese - Branta Canadensis - squabbling over something at Carr Mill Dam, St Helens. I particularly like the reflections of the water ripples on the underside of the wings of the goose facing the camera.

Hoverfly On Oxeye

Strange title, but yes, this is a Hoverfly - Helophilus pendulus - searching for pollen on an Oxeye Daisy - Leucanthemum vulgare. Seen near Scotmans Flash, Wigan and taken using a +4 macro filter on my 18-270 lens. Sony SLT A65.

I was quite amazed at just how furry this beautiful little butterfly actually is when seen close up. There were a few of them fluttering about in the sunshine and enjoying a large patch of thistles, some budding some going to seed, this one seemed to like his food fresh. Seen while walking near Pennington Flash, Leigh. Sony SLT A65.

I spotted this beautiful Ruddy Darter (Sympetrum striolatum) dragonfly near Pennington Flash, Leigh. It got wary when I approached but then settled on top of a fence post and allowed me to take his picture. Taken using a 4 macro filter on my 18-270 zoom. Sony SLT A65.

Common Tern In Flight

Saw this Common Tern wheeling and turning over the lake. Slightly smaller than a seagull, they fly so fast with unpredictable twists and turns that it's really hard to get a decent shot of them. I was really pleased when I saw how this one turned out. Seen at Carr Mill Dam, St Helens, Merseyside.

The Gull was on the lake and I had just got the exposure right and was holding it with the AEL button when it took off towards the shadow of the far bank. I tracked it and took the shot while still automatically holding the AEL button. An effect accidentally captured but I really like the result. Taken at Carr Mill Dam, St Helens.

Speckled Wood On Fern

Four Spotted Chaser

Another 'Chasing The Insect' day. There were a few of these Four Spotted Chasers flying about near the wetlands at Three Sisters, Wigan, but I just couldn't get a picture of one flying, or even perched on a reed with a clear background so I had to make do with this one.

Collecting For New Baby

We heard this Robin first then followed it through the trees, watching as it found food for it's baby. It then stopped and kindly perched on this branch whilst I took it's picture before flying off to it's nest. Seen at Carr Mill Dam, St Helens.
