Treasure At My Door

zxgirl posted a photo:

After seeing photos of these beautiful flies on so many of your streams and feeling a bit envious, I finally got to see them myself! A female showed up two nights ago right at my door, and then last night - two flies! Both males. I guess they marked the wrong date in their day planners.

These are larger than I expected. They were very cooperative for photos, this one particularly as it landed on my white doorframe.

Sometimes I'm in my house after a patio light photoshoot, and I see some little character I recognize as having just seen outside. Last night it was a greenish leafhopper I hadn't seen before, so I had paid particular attention to it outside, which made it easy to recognize inside when it alighted on my wall calendar. I always try to be quick going in and out the door on these buggy nights. Last night - zip! I could swear I saw one of these dart right in when I started to open it to go in. Hey! I opened the door and, sure enough, it was right there perched on the carpet. Thanks for not going far! I caught it and put it back out where it would be much happier.

Happy Fly Day Friday!

I spotted this strange little shape on my landlady's lantana, and, upon realizing it was a fly, hoped it was content enough to hang out while I went for my camera. It was, and it did, through many photos and the flash going off. But where's its abdomen?? I found out when I took a side shot that it's curled forward - maybe you'll see that shot next week. ;-)
