I couldn't believe my luck when these pair of Kingfishers came up next to each other, both with a fish... the female on the left had already had 2 fish in the last hour. This branch seems to be a favourite of theirs in the afternoons.
The last couple of weeks have seen fighting over the female, courting and now fishing together. Hoping that this year they rear some young before the high waters return.

A full 1 1/2 minutes of pulling pushing twisting and fighting, quite visious little birds, and all over a female Kingfisher who is sat in a tree on the other side of the river. I didnt put any writing on this clip so as to get the full amont of film in. Thats a 500 ml bottle floating near, it goes to show how small these birds are.

Two male Kingfishers spent about 15 minutes fighting, constantly locked beaks together. A female was sat in a tree on the other side of the river. This fighting has been going on for the last three days in the millrace at Swineford. It was shot from the end window of the workshop on the opposite bank of the river Avon.

She sat on one of the iron brackets for a few minutes outside the end window, watching and preening a little before flying over to the steps on the other side of the millrace. The sun was trying its best to break through the clouds as this shot was taken through a 4" hole in an old compost bin side propped up against the window.

Wild Otter pup, one of two spotted on saturday around 10.30 am playing together in the millrace on the river Avon near Bath. This one had caught a fish, the other was right behind it as they made their way to the top of the weir. Photographed through an ivy bush, but it had definatly heard the shutter click!

A continuation of the feeding frenzy on the same favourite perch. The male returns with another fish and eats it by thr side of his mate. I was hoping for him to present it to her as an offering but it didnt happen this time.

The Kingfisher pair spent a lot of time today above the shallow water of the millrace, very successfully fishing again and again. Here they are seen as the sun was low in the sky and lighting up the branches and the stones around the tunnel mouth.

A Redpoll seen for the first time at Swineford Mill by myself. Three of them were seen around the Goldfinch niger seed feeder for about 20 minutes. The goldfinches not seeming to be bothered by this as they were seen together on the feeder a few times. This one spent more time watching the others and picking up the dropped seeds. Wild bird food was sprinkled along the top of the wall that morning when the other feeder was refilled.

This morning, looking out the workshop window, ripples appeared on the water ... then the tell tail trail of bubbles ... This adult Otter spent 15 minutes catching fish in the millrace before heading off down the river.

Down it goes ... crunch crunch crunch!
