Two days on 15th and 22nd July1956 my father spent time photographing with the Severn Railway Bridge weight testing ballast train. This shot was found in amongst 1000 negatives together with about 20 others taken on these two testing days. It was double headed with 5018 St Mawes Castle which was the lead locomotive.&lt;br /&gt;

Two days on 15th and 22nd July1956 my father spent time photographing with the Severn Railway Bridge weight testing ballast train. This shot was found in amongst 1000 negatives together with about 20 others taken on these two testing days. It was double headed with 5018 St Mawes Castle which was the lead locomotive.&lt;br /&gt;

    <media:title>S1 Our hosts on 5042</media:title>
    <media:description type="html">&lt;p&gt;Two days on 15th and 22nd July1956 my father spent time photographing with the Severn Railway Bridge weight testing ballast train. &amp;quot;Our Hosts&amp;quot; as he'd named this shot was found in amongst 1000 negatives together with about 20 others taken on these two testing days. It would be great to find out these enginemens names. It was double headed with 5018 St Mawes Castle which was the lead locomotive.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
5042  Winchester Castle. Built July 1935. First shed allocation Old Oak Common. August 1950 shed allocation Gloucester. March 1959 shed allocation Worcester. May 1965 and last shed allocation Gloucester. Withdrawn June 1965: 1,339,221 miles. Scrapped at R. Hayes (Bird's), Bridgend. (Great Western Archive)&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;p&gt;4082 Windsor Castle ( 7013 Bristol Castle ) photographed at Swindon works in 1952. When King George VI died in February 1952, number 4082 was in Swindon works for repairs. To keep with tradition, the number of 4082 together with the name of Windsor Castle and the commemorative plaques were transferred to number 7013 Bristol Castle to haul the funeral train. However, after the special train working, only the commemorative plaques were returned to the original engine and from then on number 7013 became the Royal engine, number 4082 Windsor Castle, and the original number 4082 became number 7013 Bristol Castle.&lt;br /&gt;

When King George VI died in February 1952, number 4082 was in Swindon works for repairs.
