In Spirit with Shahbag @National University of Singapore

On a cool, rainy Sunday, 10th of February, Bangladeshi students studying in The National University of Singapore gathered together to express their solitude for the Shahbag movement and demand highest possible sentence for the collaborators (Rajakars) of the 1971 war. A brief introduction of the event was followed by a satirical play depicting the heinous roles of the collaborators during the war. Maruf Amin Bhuiyan, Soham Saha and Majedur Rahman Chowdhury portrayed the crimes- murder, plunder, rape and arson committed by the Rajakars during that time. The group then sang a patriotic song followed by the National Anthem. It was followed by placards and banner exhibition demanding that all the collaborators of the 1971 war must be dealt with the highest possible penalty. We are in spirit with the people gathered in Shahbag.

The Bangladeshi police force is infamous for being corrupt, unfit and reluctant to fight crime.
But the corrupt political system and a meager wage force them to take bribes and take part in injustice instead of preventing it.

As the new year begins, here is hoping the BD police will be able to rectify its ways and become the public's protector and friend.
