Tricky to shoot, long to edit. Biting cold wind and snow hampering my trip down south but is a jetty I've wanted to shoot for a while now. Conditions weren't ideal so yet again penned in for another visit. Lots of cloning here to rid the image of buoys and boats - I really don't like spending ages sat in fron the PC editing.

edit: I've reworked the image again from scratch after deciding I had to get it to look more like what I had in my mind. Do not attempt to edit complex black and white images when tired.

My first upload for 2013. Nothing special, my inactivity has caused me to forget simple workflow actions (close viewfinder when doing LE's, select the right channel on wireless remote etc. etc.). I did try a few weeks back to come back with a more "classic" landscape at Three Cliffs,but due to a very strong wind and being unable to get to the right spot safely meant I came back with nothing. Today was just a quick stint down at Weston to blow away the cobwebs.

It's November, the divers pontoon in front of Swanage old pier must have been taken down now that it's out of season right? Wrong, as I discovered to my horror today, it's still there for another few weeks due to ongoing corporate testing. Bad luck, suppose I'll have to take another 3 hour trip there in January.

So to Durdle Door for a panorama. I was expecting to do a long exposure panorama with thick grey skies but as it turned out quite a pleasant sunset. It was touch and go weatherwise (sat in my car for 20 minutes whilst the rain hammered down) but it cleared briefly for sunset before hammering it down again. A bit of luck at last !!

St Oswalds Bay & Man o' War Cove to the left, Durdle Door (Bay) to the right.

Really is best viewed LARGE.

Wells is a cathedral city and civil parish in the Mendip district of Somerset, England, on the southern edge of the Mendip Hills. Although the population recorded in the 2001 census is 10,406, it has had city status since 1205.

It is the second smallest English city in terms of area and population after the City of London although, unlike the latter, Wells is not part of a larger metropolitan conurbation, and is consequently described in some sources as being England's smallest city.

My first image uploaded using the 16-35 f/4. First image uploaded using a resize & sharpen action. On a scale of -5 to +5 (-5 being soft, +5 being over sharp. 0 being just right), please let me know where you think it is placed. Water and sky unsharp, central turret extra sharp, all else moderate sharpening. No sharpening applied in ACR whatsoever, no pixels were harmed in the making of this image. I hope !

Edit: [4th Oct]. I have reworked this image as I wanted to increase contrast and emphasize a little more ambience. If the image appears too sharp on the architecture then it is a prompt to me that I should not use the "Extra Sharp" Layer Mask in my resize action. I've also uploaded a slightly larger version at 1024.

A strong suggestion that I ditch the original and rework this image again.

Came here again the evening after the previous sunset. This time the sky was pretty flat but had a faint pink glow to it.

A visit to this spot with Tony saw a magnificent sunset, the best the week had to offer. I love the rocks here, they lead everywhere.

Joined on this one by Tony, Ray & Dean and a few others, it certainly was a busy one.

The rocks and light on this beach on this particular evening was great. The tide was a little aggressive so it was a case of shoot & retreat.

A moody sunset gave a great sky but little light, a good swap I'd say. A more "middle of the road" shot than my usual.

Shooting subjects like this is fine at 24mm but I need my16-35 ASAP really. Will be back in a couple of weeks and hopefully do just that.
