This is an image of Mt. LeConte take from Highway 441 in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.

The image is one I took back in 2010, but I'm heading to the mountains for a couple of days. Graveyard Fields for one (hoping from some higher altitude wildflowers) as well as Mouse Creek Falls. Hoping to get some interesting image as well as some much needed de-stressing and mental re-charging. I hope everyone has a great weekend.
Please view on BLACK.

I found this Lady's Slipper growing along the Secret Falls Trail in North Carolina, a relatively large patch of them actually.

I hope everyone is doing well, I've been really busy (and traveling) the last few days and haven't had much time to spend on here. My schedule is still pretty hectic for the next week or so.

Good morning everyone. I returned home yesterday evening only to leave again today for a couple of days. I hope all of you had a great holiday weekend. I took this image a good while ago, and played around with it when evaluating a converstion plugin. I do like the cloud patterns. Have a wonderful day.

A sunset image taken at Wahoo Creek Park on Lake Lanier. Wahoo Creek Park is a recreation area on the north end of Lake Lanier in Hall County, GA. It is located on Mt. Vernon Road at the south end of the Wahoo Creek Bridge. It is a relatively small park but does have a boat ramp and a few wooded trails leading to the lake.

This is the last of a seriesof images i took on this colorful evening at Lanier. I may have a film transparency or two I haven't scanned i'm not sure. Happy Mother's Day and hope everyone is having a great weekend. Looking forward to home, the iPad is nice but cumbersome for photo work and typing :)

Oxbow Bend in the Grand Teton National Park is one of my favorite, as well as one of the most popular areas of the park. It was created when part of the river was cut off and left behind as the Snake River found a new path to the south.

I think this one is pretty neat. I'm sure all of you have been in the forest, and just see that one spot on the forest floor that the sun is hitting? It's almost like a spot light in nature. This image reminds me of the same thing, but on a much grander scale.

Schwabachers Landing is a boat landing giving access to the Snake River inside Grand Teton National Park. It is one of only four places within the park with easy access to the river.

We stood in this spot at Schwabacher's Landing for a long time this particular morning. We arrived well before sunrise and the morning temperatures were already getting very cold due to the time of year.

It was definitely worth the wait as we watched the tones go from deep blue to warmer as the sun began to rise. It is a site to behold in person.
First Slice of Light

Oxbow Bend in the Grand Teton National Park is one of my favorite, as well as one of the most popular areas of the park. It was created when part of the river was cut off and left behind as the Snake River found a new path to the south.

This image is a favorite of mine in that the rising sun lit the landscape between the ground and the cloud cover above. The mountains caught some of this light as did the undersides of the clouds. A very beautiful place to watch the day start.

This image was taken off Gros Ventre Road outside Jackson, Wyoming. Gros Ventre Road is another route through Grand Teton National Park. The road follows the Gros Ventre River for the majority of its length as it runs north through Kelly and toward the Bridger Teton National Forest. It is popular for reaching backcountry areas within the park.

One from the archives all. I still have a lot of images from my trip out west a couple of years ago that I haven't sorted through yet. This one was taken on one of those wonderful evenings when you see something happening and can't find a great place close enough to capture it. My friend and I finally just pulled over and walked into the field you see here and did our best.
Spring at Hemlock Falls

John Cothron posted a photo:

Until last year, Hemlock Falls were simply known as Waterfall #2, one of the two prominent waterfalls in Cloudland Canyon State Park. A contest was held in 2011 to name both falls.

Cloudland Canyon is located in northwest Georgia near the town of Trenton. On top of Lookout Mountain, the canyon was formed by Daniel and Bear Creek which cut gorges through the rock before joining to become Sitton Gulch Creek. Both falls are located on Daniel Creek.

The canyon itself is more than 1000 feet deep, and to reach the falls you will get to experience every one of them. The two mile Waterfalls Trail is at approximately 40 degree angle and mostly composed of stair cases.

A shot from the archives. I spent a lot of time looking for different compositions at Hemlock. That huge rock is beautiful in its own right, but creates a bit of a challenge in trying to show it effectively in relationship to the falls. When you look at this area in person, it's a bit of a puzzle determining where that rock fit into things before it was at the bottom of the fall. You think there would be a huge hole in the cliff faces above somewhere :)

This is the second waterfall along the Raven Cliff Falls trail in north Georgia. They are a little over one mile in along the trail which generally follows Dodd Creek. Not having a name that I'm aware of, I have christened them Maidenhair Falls.

One from the archives yet again everyone. These falls might very well be my second favorite falls in the area, next to my darling Minnehaha of course..lol. Hope everyone has a great week.
Autumn - Maidenhair Falls

This is the second waterfall along the Raven Cliff Falls trail in north Georgia. They are a little over one mile in along the trail which generally follows Dodd Creek. Not having a name that I'm aware of, I have christened them Maidenhair Falls.

One from the archives yet again everyone. These falls might very well be my second favorite falls in the area, next to my darling Minnehaha of course..lol. Hope everyone has a great week.

A black and white image of Minnehaha Falls in Rabun County, Georgia. The falls are on Falls Branch and are approximately 100 ft. high. The falls are arguably the most beautiful waterfall in North Georgia. It is easily accessible off Bear Gap Road near Lake Rabun.

I felt like doing a little conversion this morning. This image is actually from last spring, we are a little behind this year and don't have nearly this amount of foliage yet. I used Silver Efex Pro 2 for the conversion. I'm off to play golf with a customer this morning, hope everyone has a great Saturday!
When Waters are Still

This is a sunset image taken at Mountain View Park on Lake Lanier. The park is located off Browns Bridge Road near Gainesville, GA. When the water is low, it is one of my most favorite places to shoot Lanier. It is quite popular with local bank fisherman as it has a nice secluded beach area from which to fish.

On most days, there is a time just after the sun goes down on the lake when everything comes to a stand still. The winds die down, the ripples stop, and most the boats have stopped criss-crossing whatever cove you are on. Even the birds have stopped chirping. To me, this is the most magical time for the surroundings. The colors of night come alive admidst a feeling of overwhelming peace. It's my favorite time to be sitting on a rock with a camera.

This is an image of a Bee Mimic I shot while in Grand Teton National Park harvesting nectar from an aster. They are actually flies that mimic bees for the obvious reason of protection.

See I don't just shoot landscapes guys..lol. I struggle when I get outside of them however. I THOUGHT this was a bee, and after trying to identify what kind of bee for a good long time, finally discovered I was looking for the wrong insect. Had me fooled...but not again :)
Reflections at War Hill

War Hill Park is a large park on the north end of Lake Lanier in Dawsonville, GA. It has campsites, beaches, grills, etc. for overnight and day visitors. Apparently there are plans to turn the park into a public marina, which does not sit well with many of the locals. Signs can be seen in front yards saying "Save War Hill Park".

From a photographic standpoint it has a few very interesting features and can be effectively shot at either sunrise and sunset for great reflections.

I'm glad Spring is here of course, but what I'm missing most is shooting on Lanier. As beautiful as the geography of northeast Georgia is, it also creates some challenges. Lake Lanier is huge, but the number of places you can shoot dwindles as the water rises. It will go back down some, it always does. :) Hope everyone had a great weekend!

This is an sunset image taken at Old Federal Park on the eastern shore of Lake Lanier near Flowery Branch, GA. The concrete anchor in the image is used to anchor one end of a string of buoys that mark off the swimming area.

This is from my short visit to Lake Lanier earlier in the week. I wanted to put the Big Stopper to the test and see what it's made of and shooting into direct light isn't a bad way to find out :) For those of you that do not know, the Big Stopper is a neutral density filter that reduces light by 10 stops, allowing much longer shutter speeds than would otherwise be possible.

Raper Creek Falls is located in north Georgia in the county of Habersham. The falls themselves are approximately 15 ft. high and unique in the aspect that the stream is running diagonal across a rock shelf before falling into the plunge pool below.

Yet another image from the archives, I did a little work on this one because I had an area of the scene that was blown out. If I'm remembering the day correctly, there was quite a bit of sun around...as you can tell from spots in the image. :) Hope all of you are having a great week!
Early Spring Evening at Minnehaha

An image of Minnehaha Falls in Rabun County, Georgia. The falls are on Falls Branch between its headwaters on Stoney Mountain and where it empties into Lake Rabun. They are approximately 100 ft. high, and arguably the most beautiful waterfall in North Georgia. It is easily accessible off Bear Gap Road near Lake Rabun in the town of Lakemont.

It's rare for me to post an image of Minnehaha from this angle, it's beautiful, but because the fall curves left to right at the bottom (looking head on), it appears to have a somewhat distorted look from this angle. I always have a problem feeling "balanced" from this perspective. Still, it shows the cascades better than any other angle in my opinion.

Oxbow Bend in the Grand Teton National Park is one of my favorite, as well as one of the most popular areas of the park. It was created when part of the river was cut off and left behind as the Snake River found a new path to the south.

One of the better known, and more beautiful scenic areas of the Grand Teton National Park. I visited this place on two different occasions, once in the morning and once in the evening.

This particular morning was quite chilly and we weren't quite sure what the light was going to do till the last minute. It turned out to work in our favor. Sunrise here is a very beautiful process to watch.

***This is a re-edit of a previously posted image. It's funny when I look back to when I think I had processing figured out to realize it wasn't even close. :) I wonder whether I will be satisfied with this one in a year when I look back.
