San Francisco - Looking along Market Street to the financial district. Taken from Twin Peaks.
After a long day of sightseeing in San Francisco, I only wanted to go back to the hotel and rest my legs... But I pulled myself together and took the long way round up to twin peaks and was rewarded with this beautiful vista.

Hobart Building

Built in 914, the Hobart Building was with 21 floors, rising 87 meters, the second tallest building in SF at that time. Today it's dwarfed by the surrounding skyscrapers. The transamerica pyramid, a five minute walk away is three times that high.

Quite a peaceful place... That is, if you take the time to get 7 shots from the same position (without a tripod of course), hoping that you get every angle covered at least once without a tourist and then do some hours of photoshopping patching up all these jerks having nothing better to do standing around and taking pictures...
I hate tourists...
- yes you might tell me that Alacatraz isn't exactly the spot you should go to if you are a misanthrope
- and yes this would of course include myself, but I wasn't the one getting in the way for that shot ;)

two big pipes running through a pumphouse and on into the bay - despite all the rust there still seems to be pressure...

As upshift told me, this belongs to the Hetch Hetchy Aqueduct and is still active.

This must have been one of the most beautiful places to work at (or maybe even live in - if the bridgekeeper lived up there). Unfortunately there was no way to get there without a boat - so it's being left to your imagination what the interior might look like - perhaps a little kitchen with a chair and a small table looking over the bay at sunset, seagulls calling, the wind slightly ringing the bell on the roof... I know I'm a dreamer :)

we drove the beautiful winding road all the way up from San Jose to Mount Hamilton (1200 meters) just to learn that they were closed the day before July 4th... they could have mentioned it on the net at least. Still it was worth the trip - thank god we weren't going by bike (we saw quite a few hardcore cyclist on that road). (no HDR, no PS, just some LR)

A beam of sunlight falls through the roof of the 'Washington Packing Corp' abandoned tuna cannery. Dancing motes reflect the light in all colors. (Thanks to Jeff for spotting this) Unfortunately only a small part of that interesting building was accessible.

In China Town, San Francisco. The famous 'grip cars' are pulled by wire ropes running under the streets. More detail on the SF cable cars in wikipedia (en)
(Photoshopped: Took two images from the same position, one without the trolley, removed writing on marquee on the right. One image with trolley, partly desaturated, set transparent, painted in opacity)
