The pouches and plastic routing for steel wire was presumably part of an emergency exit system, this shuttle mockup helping train astronauts to escape to safety. Go out through the window, lower yourself down the side of the shuttle with a harness contained in your pouch, numbered one to seven for each of the seven astronauts?

Canada, manufacturers of the Canadarm robotic arm. Mock-up of the control panels - switches looked pretty authentic, larger levers and dsplays not so good.
